A compatible SIM and phone, paired with the car are still not sufficient. Authorization comes via MB servers.

I wouldn't call it a "custom NFC SIM card", just an up-to-date SIM card here and the service provider supporting SIM security (not sure about the exact terms). In practise all SIM cards here are compatible. The phone needs to support NFC too bat that also has been the case for all smart phones for a long time.

LOL. Doesn't your browser translate the site? Chrome does...and with a German accent. Here is copy and paste Chrome translation.
"
The digital car key works with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and an enablement. For your safety, the mobile phone is recognized only in close proximity to the touchpoint. In addition, your smartphone charges wirelessly in the center console."
...End of translation.
Doesn't really answer the question. My SA thinks it is European models only.

Unlock without turning.
Your mobile phone is at the same time the key to your vehicle, so you will not be able to move or forget it easily. Your smartphone, equipped with this technology, simply sticks to the touchpoint of the car door and unlocks it quite comfortably. The digital car key works with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and an enablement. The site I posted a link to? Odd, the link was to the English pages, the site must start with German language then and use a cookie or something like that.
At the bottom right of the page you have a language selection drop-down menu. If it starts in German for you, the menu reads "Sprache".
