Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) Antique Car Show Sunday, October 2, 2011
MBWorld members,
This is a great cause. I don't how many of you have old cars, so I will just throw this out there.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Every year the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) and the Capitol Model "T" Club sponsor a car show. AFRH is an enlisted military veterans retirement community off North Capital Street in NW Washington, DC. Enthusiasts from all over display their cars. GWS members Steve Walters, Janet McFarland, and Lew Baskerville have displayed at this show and invite you to participate with your (pre-1985) antique car, or just come hang out. This is a fun and light-hearted show!
Schedule:
8:00 am - Coffee
8:30 am - Car Registration
11:00 am - Assembly and Judging Begins (Cars must be registered and in place)
12:15 am - Nation's Capitol Model "T" Club Demonstration - A Model "T" will be assembled and driven!
12:30 pm - Award Presentation & "Drive-By" the Health Care Facility
The ends with a caravan of antique cars driving by the facility where residents who can not walk to the show view the parade of cars from their windows.
To access the event enter through the main gate at Rock Creek Church Rd and Upshur Street. Once you enter the gate you will turn right and park behind a fellow antique car enthusiasts. When you arrive at the event, you will register your car by walking up to the main building where they will have a registration table. Although registration begins at 9 am, it is perfectly appropriate to show-up at 10 am.
Look for fellow GWS members Lew Baskerville in his Smoke Silver 1987 190E 2.3-16V or Polaris 1974 BMW 3.0 CS Coupe and Janet McFarland with either her 1974 450 SL or 1965 220 SEb La Carrera car depending on the their whim.
There is no fee to register.
This show is all about giving back to our veterans. If you are inclined, AFRH is always in need of large print books for their library and small lap blankets for their residents. It is a great way to spend a fall morning!
Driving directions: Take Georgia Ave. NW or 16th Street, NW (north or south) to Upsher Street, NW. Turn east on Upsher Street, NW to the AFRH Main Gate to enter and register for the show.
RSVP to Lew Baskerville the-hound@juno.com letting him know your name, model and year of your car or download the registration form from our Section's website.
