G500 spare tire key?
Does anyone know if the spare tire key is located in the car somewhere? I bought my 2003 G500 used from the dealer and don't remember ever getting a key.
Somehow the cover came off when they were detailing the car and now i need to key to unlock the cover to put it back on
Thanks!

Go to the dealer and get the key. If they don't have them get them to make it right. Owners are notorious for forgetting to turn those little bits and dealers sometimes forget to give them to you or ask for them from the owner since there are so few Gwagens.

You need to fold the seat forward to see if the cubby is there. On the pre-2002's, this cubby is where the factory supplied tool kit is stored. Not sure about the 2002+ G's.

Usually the spare tire key came inside the owner's manual, or in the cubby below the right rear seat along with the jack. Unfortunately mine was nowhere to be found. Fortunately however, a new cam lock is only a $60 part from any online MB parts wholesaler and it comes with two new keys.
Unlatch the old lock with a flathead screwdriver (it only takes about 10 pounds of torque). Once the latch is open remove the clip, slide out the lock and replace it with the new part... it only takes about 2 minutes. BTW the lock isn't intended to prevent theft, it's simply to secure the trim ring to the vehicle.

Is there a cubby located in the floor under the left rear seat? (There is on pre-2002 G's.) If yes, the key might be velcroed to the inside of the cubby cover.

You're correct Patris. However, the cubby on the '04 and later G's is on the right side because the left side houses a 6.5" subwoofer. There is also a cubby in the middle of the rear floorboard that sometimes houses the key along with the other tools. In my experience usually the PO has lost the key that came on the dealer ring.
