Tires

I'm curious if anyone has replaced his /her tires and what brand did you go with. I'm also toying with the idea of changing the rims to 55 Rims and 19s. What kind of changes should i expect to the ride.

I use the Yokohama At/S in a stock size on the 18" stock G500 wheels. Nice on highway, great for sensible off road use unlike the stock tires. The lady AMG liked them so much she got them for her RAV4 so she can go to horsey stuff and dog shows without fear of getting stuck in muddy fields and the like. On her car it is almost a performance tire on the highway.

You can rotate these tires in an x pattern for better wear.

If it snows so bad you can't use them stay home.

A 55 on larger rims is more apt to give you a stiffer ride and possible rim damage with highway speed potholes with a possible handling advantage uless your unsung weight is increased. If it is you may have increased break wear.

Just rode the Ma Pike from NY border to Worcster exit. Total mess. Dodging potholes the entire way. They charge a toll for this abomination?

In order to get qualified feedback on tire brand/model you may want tell us your needs and driving use. I doubt you'll notice any change in ride quality going from 18" to 19".

99% of my driving is either local or short highway trips, however I will be taking the G on a longer 1,500 mile trip this summer. I do not plan off road driving.

Based on your location and driving needs you might want to give these a look.

I use Hankooks on my CL55 winter and summer versions and really like them.

They are less expensive, v rated, and have a better wear rating than the stock Yokohama hts. My local specialist does not like Kuhmos due to " issues". I like the siping which is said to help with wet traction since I know about your frequent downpours! have friends in PB.

Thanks for listening even if you come up with a different informed choice.

Then I would go with the OEM set up for the 18" or 19"

Personal experience? I have never heard of anyone damaging an OEM 18" or 19" G wheel with OEM tire specs due to highway potholes. Possible? Maybe but highly unlikely. Also not understanding your comment regarding unsprung weight and brake wear. Sounds like you're attempting to explain something you read pertaining to an aftermarket wheel setup on another model car.

Good points.

Perhaps the biggest issue is the possible offset difference between AMG G55 wheels and the G500 18" wheels, rather than the size.

What do you think?
