Av not blowing cold in Drivers side

Hello all, my G500's (2004) AC is blowing warming in the drivers side, blows colder on passengers side. I took it to a mechanic today and he said he did not think it was the freon and said it could be a valve or a filter which is causing an obstruction. I did not have full confidence in his diagnostic techniques Soley because he kept saying that he had never worked in these vehicles. Alot of forums suggest that it is in fact the freon levels. What is the reason behind one side blowing cold and the other side not? Any suggestions? Is this something that can be tackled by myself?

Thanks

So...
I placed some AC Pro in the system. It was really low. Problem solved.

Maybe this can help someone else.

Just solved the same issue with refilling the freon as well.
