DIY instructions for G63 bumper on G550 ??
I've bought all the OEM pieces for the 4 fender flares and G63 bumper and everything looks pretty straight forward except for a few questions. I probably should take all the pieces out and try and piece it all together, but figured I would pose some questions first!
The bumper comes disassembled so I'm trying to figure out what mounting hardware to use where?? Basically 3 pieces....the metal mount (looks pretty straight forward mounting to car), the plastic inside mesh (comes in 3 pieces) and finally the painted bumper cover.
1) Do I put all three pieces together first before mounting to the car? Or mount the metal piece to the car and then the mesh/cover with the metal mount already in position?
2) For hardware, I have a bunch of rivets, triple square screws, and I assume I use the same bolts to mount to the car itself. What is used to mount what?
3) There are 2 rubber strips (about 2-3 inches wide and 1.5 feet long)..do those go between the metal mount and the bumper cover??
4) Also the order on taking off the old and putting on the new parts....was thinking take the old bumper off , then the front fender flares...then the new fender flares, then the new bumper. Does it matter ??
Also, if anyone has a diagram or DIY steps it would help greatly vs. trying to figure it all out
Thx,Will

So I figured out how the bumper all goes together...here are some pics of the G550 with the new fender flares and bumper...I had already replaced the grille and light inserts last year....
Because there is basically nothing behind the side grilles (no intercoolers) I put in some LED lights using the existing foglight wiring. Also made a couple brackets to make the sides alot more rigid.
I did the installation myself so if anyone has questions around the installation process, please let me know! Just gotta get the right license plate holder!!!!!
Exhaust, wheels, front grille and bumper all from Mercteil. Fender flares from 3WD. LEDs from Inspired Engineering

Last piece to the project...put on the G65 front skid plate (OEM part). Just take off the old black cover and this one bolts right on using the same mounting holes and bolts. Only works on the G63/G65 bumper as the lip rolls up to the bottom of the bumper....

I wired them to the fuse box on the drivers side cabin. Just buy an "add-a-fuse" and bring a wire thru the engine firewall into the cabin and hook up to the add-a-fuse. Just make sure you choose a fuse that turns on when the car turns on (problem with hooking it up to other lights is that they will only turn on when the lights are on). Going to the fuse box gives you option to find power when the car turns on. From there, you can ground anywhere in the engine bay where appropriate.

The fender flares were pretty straight forward. Remove the wheel well liner, which then exposes a series of screws/bolts that hold the fender in place. Its been a while since I did the swap, so I don't remember anything being too difficult except there isn't alot of clearance to get the bolts off...you may want to do some pre-investigation work and take off a liner and check what size bolts hold the fenders in place...then go out and get one of the ratchet wrench in the correct size (for some reason 7mm sticks in my head)...this will say time cuz I don't think I had the clearance to get a socket in there....

Hi,
Nice conversion! I'm converting my G550 to G63. Changing the bumper and 4 fender flares and had a question. At the moment its on hold as I'm trying to figure out the issue with fender flares. I realized that the original fender liners are not wide enough and leaving a gap. By looking at your pictures I noticed that you have that gap as well. Have you tried getting new liners for G63? Are they wider or that's how original G63 looks like, with a gap?
I've been searching for aftermarket fender liners but unable to find and the OEM is over $100 each
Thank you in advance

where are the holes in the firewall for a G550?
