Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 on stock 20" wheels. Third winter on my G63 in NJ. Have used Blizzaks and Winter Scorpions on other makes in the past but prefer the Nokians. Good in the snow and better than the summer Yokohamas on dry roads once the temperature falls below 45F.

I am in NY, and interested, if you still have them?

for folks living in the areas where it never snows (Sf Bay Area) but can drive occasionally to mountains (Sierra) at a coupe of hrs distance, my all season contis worked well on the Range Rover...you think ‘19 g63 Pirelli all seasons should be good enough? Asking as It seems like you tried..

Festerester - I use my cars for trips to VT and while my drive is 95% snowless, when I get up to VT and there is snow, or worst ice, I am VERY happy to have winter tires on. On many occasions I dont think all seasons would have safely gotten me to my destination. I think in the G especially you will want the added stopping power of grippy winter wheels.

I am extra cautious but honest to go the winter wheels make a significant and surprising ability in snow and ice.

PS They call all-seaons "no-seasons" for a reason :-)

NICE Fleet of cars!! I just bought a cpo 2016 G63 and it came with summers yoko advan st and on Thursday had dealer install pirelli scopion ZERO All SEASON tires on 20 inch rims. Do you have Zero's on your G and if so are they good for L. I. NY winters and ski trip to Adirondacks & Vermont along with BEACH driving in the Hamptons??

THANKS for your EXPERTISE!!

winters are a must. given the weight of the G, descending any sort of hill or slope without appropriate tires, you’ll end up breaking grip and sliding hopelessly,

id argue you need it even more for the g than the sports cars which you won’t push nor expect winter performance.

Yes - 100% you will want dedicated winter tires, like Blizzaks. G needs serious breaking help in the snow and ice. Couldnt imagine driving a vehicle without them in Vermont. Blizzaks are so cheap these day anyway. $1k for a set. Piece of mind. You will need them.

Can’t get away from the stock look.
Pirelli and Continental make 22” winter tires (275-40-22)
I went with the Conti’s.

What stock did you get? all season?

OP here. I went with winter set. Loved it! Will do the same for incoming, whenever that is.

2018 G63 Palladium Silver
OK
2018 G63 here in Michigan.
I have only had it 3 weeks, I have known I was getting winter tires from the start but decided to do new custom wheels as well so I am in a waiting phase right now.
Today we got out first snow in Metro Detroit, just maybe 2 in at most and I have to tell you driving on stock tires is NOT fun!!! I do not like the fact I have to wait 4 more weeks for my new wheels and tires.
I am just glad I have not listed my LX470 for sale yet, I will be waiting till the new wheels and tires arrive so I can drive it on days with snow on the roads.

Whoever voted yes for riding summer tires in NJ winter is either trolling, or dangerously ignorant and likely thinks that AWD means winter proof.

What kind of tires do you have on your 18 g63 now?? Are they summer or all seasons?? I just had dealer replace my wifes tires on 16 g63 from summer to pirelli zero all season and hoping they are sufficient for NY winters??

Thanks Yukon

I’ve sampled summers, all-seasons, winters, and chains in Northeast winter driving over several decades. My personal preference is all seasons. If I lived in Buffalo, I would likely go with two sets of tires (summer & winter), but for NYC and south I found all season tires give the best overall performance for the most likely conditions. I know this is blasphemy to some, but in this region where the average high is 40-45 degrees, the degradation in dry and rain performance with winter tires isn’t worth the edge in snow performance. A couple of my wife’s Bimmers were set up with a set of summers (Easter through Halloween) and set of all seasons (for the rest of the year). Just drive a bit slower on the 2 days of snow and you’ll be safer the other 28 days of the month.

P.S. I drove my M6 year round with summer tires. If it snowed, I took my wife’s car or I just worked from home.

This is what I was looking for. DC based here, we usually only get several inches of snow annually with the occasional dump of a foot or more every several years. I think all-seasons would work fine in these parts as well.

What type of tires do you have? Have you driven them in any type of snow or ice yet?

I have LT275/55R20 General Grabber A/TX tires on my G550. They aren’t the best in any single category, but I think are good all-around tire that I think fits the G’s range of capabilities: all weather and terrain surfaces.

Front tire

It doesn’t look very green in this light.

Can you give me some suggestions on where would be the best place to buy new rims for my new winter tire I would like to buy a dedicated winter set and just swap out every fall . I see tire rack has 2 types and i'm sure MB dealer would be $$$.

Thanks for your help I know sometimes we may not need a dedicated winter & an AS tire may suffice I have only owned this g63 2 months and its my wifes car and we recently had an bmw x5 with michelin duelers and always had decent traction but this is a new/different animal and trying to make the best decision. We only had 2 inches of snow this year and we know snow is coming and I need to do a test run to see how current pirelli zero as tires are??
Secondly, trying to find out total cost of dedicated new winter set if go that route.

Happy Holidays

I just bought a set of the Grabbers for my ram 1500 and they have a very good ride and are super quiet. However I did notice that my mpg did go done because they are very heavy compared to the to wranglers sra passenger tire I originally had. They look great on the G and I was thinking about a AT tire on wifes g63 but dealer wanted a tire with a high speed rating with a MO designation so I bought the pirelli zero AS tire as part of my purchase agreement with them on the 16 cpo. They credited me 50% off tire choice updrade from summer yoko advan st.

Happy Holidays......
