Underground Parking dilemma....possible to reduce height of G550?
Sold my S550 earlier this year. Possibly getting a 2013+ G550 in the nearest future. But there seems to be one setback.
I live in condo and the parking garage entrance is 6ft 5inches high which is 77inches in total. Now i just learned today via wikipedia that the 2013 g550 is 76inches in height.
Anyone else have this samedilemma? Is 1inch enough clearance to drive this car through a 77inch high entrance? if not, is it possible to lower the car by getting new springs?
Any other options?
This is the deciding factor on whether or not the G550 is my next car. Would suck if this ends up being the only reason i go back to a s550.
Thanks

The height of the G can present a problem. I no longer take my G into the city because the public parking garages have very low clearances. The last one I entered was 79" in height. Too close for comfort. If the height concerns your residence...that's a whole different story. There are many threads and posts here regarding altering the ride height of the G. It is costly and can be complicated. Good luck making the decision.

What tire size can one get to reduce the overall height by an inch or more without generally taking away from the drivability of the car? i don't care about comfort. the car rides harsh to begin with anyways.

you can't simply reduce the tire/wheel size as it will throw off the rotating circumference size and throw off the speed sensing electronics, the ABS electronics, the speedometer and odometer. the only way to reduce the height is by getting/installing shorter springs like these Lorinser Lowering Springs...

Technically it doesn't mess with the abs and esp because those measurements are just relative to each other. As long as all tires are the same size, that prob won't make any difference. It will affect speed, odometer, mpg calculation.

It will affect the ESP, but that and the other parameters can be compensated with a STAR diagnosis system and a bit of knowledge.
