2011 G55 AMG
G55 Long Term Reliability
Hello Everyone:
My apologies if this topic is addressed ad nauseum elsewhere in this forum but I didn't find anything specific to the G55.
How long should my G55 engine last before it needs a rebuild? I have a 2011 G55 AMG with 70K miles and I have about 9 mos left on an extended warranty that I purchased when I bought it used in 2013.
Are there reputable warranty providers for G's with high mileage. I am not very comfortable owning this vehicle without a warranty.
Thanks!!!

I just ran across this youtube video the other day. 400k on E55.
My G55 only has 85k, but I've seen 500's with a few hundred k with no issues. These vehicles are way over engineered so if you want it to last you it will. My doors go out/have issues every so often which is really annoying, but pretty easy to fix.
Just my opinion here.

The SOHC M113 motor is very reliable. You will run into few common issues like (leaky valve covers and leaky RMS) then it should be all good.
Keep it stock and it will keep running..

my G55K will have 100,000 miles this month.
The way I look at it is that there will be very expensive things to fix at some point (I already had an aircon job and the front wheel bearings).
Engine-wise, that unit should be work for a very long time as it's mostly under stressed (unless you drive pedal to the metal all the time).
Look after it with new - good quality - oil every 6.6k miles, change filters and it will look after you.
Same for diffs oil, transmission and so on.

I just came to check in... wanted to see if anyone has mileage more than mine which is at 140,000. I have the 2011 G55 AMG. The drive train - still chef's kiss. Owned it since Jan 2017 when I picked it up with 57,700. I have recently considered all the mileage my daughter is forcing me to put on my wagon with her travel sports career, going to school in another county, and I get nervous. My daughter will start to drive her own vehicle in a couple years - so there's that. I can offer, some advice for my level of mileage, a couple of things... when you get to the 100k mark - plan on replacing both serpentine belts, tensioners, and pulleys. I have also replaced my spark plugs. I have a decent list of any concern getting replaced immediately - AND that is why I am seriously hesitating on trading my wagon in for a 2023 Toyota Sequoia Capstone. BUT, My wagon has recently revealed a cancer - rust. Rust above the rear camera on the back door, and lightly around the sliding roof. I LOVE my wagon. What problems can I expect at 140k+ mileage? Sequoia is comforting, but my wagon brings me joy - excluding the gas mileage and the service expenses. Was hoping to see someone on the forum with a wagon beyond my mileage.

Built 2008 G55 & one big 80 Series LandCruiser !
I'm at 120k now and it runs very well - but it took a full baseline and rebuilt tranny to get there......with front axle service pending....... hoping I get off easy on that ... as it can be $$.. as you pass 140k - things I'd be keeping an eye on or budgeting for : Injectors, waterpump/ radiator, shocks, brake booster ( did mine at 95k)
Coming from a long line of Toyotas they are great for their reliability.....but the new ones lack soul IMHO... there's a gent in Houston who has an 08' like mine that turned 300k last fall - bit of rust on it but he said it was running great and hadn't ever had any major happen to it short of a front axle rebuild he did at 220k...

Yes, I have a construction business and our fleet has only seen Toyotas. Each easily going to 300k miles - no major issues.
I have decided to keep my wagon - no car payment - change the brakes as that's the only thing I need right now.
I didn't even describe the trade in values or the dealer auction reserve that I was given for my wagon to be gone - $23-27,000! And I can't give her up for that.

I'm at 147k now. Purchased at 90k in 2020. No plans to stop driving it - adding 15k miles per year.
On the lookout for any sounds coming from the front axle, but good so far.
Plan to replace the water pump, various list of engine sensors and spark plugs this year, along with power steering reservoir and continuing to flush all fluids. Flush/clean out the lockers, hopefully figure out how to fix my TC issue, and replace the Fox shocks with something simpler. Probably a good idea to bench test/ultrasonically clean the injectors also. Other than those mechanical things, addressing any rust issues on the body/frame, then reconditioning the interior. (endless projects)
