Few G63 / G65 Observations
Few interesting observations after looking through all the pics / info. Some of these observations may be unique to the NA market.
Hate to lead with this, but it seems the most glaring omission, where is the main cup holder for the driver that used to dangle precariously off the center arm rest? Granted, that was a tenuous design at best and I've spilled more coffee than I care to discuss, but I do not see a cup holder for the drive anywhere? The passenger footwell pop-up cup holder is there. I must be missing something.
Seems the G65 wheels have the 5 star wheels with the closed star. I like the G63 wheels with the 5 start split spoke design. I'd rather just get those powder coated. And I'm sure you could order whatever you wanted but curious why MB chose to give the newer look wheel to the G63 in the marketing materials.
Looks like the G63/65 will bring back the trailer hitch. I believe this was missing on the 2010+ cars (at least in NA).
Not a fan of the (1,2,3) on the differential switches. I liked the older style. I II III. I DO like the single press Low Range button. What is the "P" button for under the gear selector.
I find this to be pretty cool:
"The G 65 AMG also employs the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission. This features steering-wheel shift paddles and three drive modes with different accelerator and gearshift mapping: "C" Controlled Efficiency, "S" Sport and "M" Manual."
Ipod connection moved to center armrest (from the glovebox).
Car looks so much better without the side marker indicators we have here in the US. Not specific to the G63/65 but looking at these pics makes me realize it more so....
Looks like G now has front parking assist as well.
The german guide posted up shows the rear entertainment kit; not sure if USA/NA can order it. Wish it was an option on my 2010.
The rear seat heater switch location will be a nightmare for parents with young kids.
Looks like there is a 12v outlet above the cupholders in the rear seat area.
The NA guide that my dealer showed to me clearly has the "PA6" Leather Desigino Exclusive Package so hopefully the quilted stitching is an option. It especially looks much better on the doors than the bunched up leather.
The german guide has the 0-100kph at 5.3 and 5.4 for the G65/G63 respectively. Surprised the G65 isn't a little more quick. Can't wait to hear the V12 in this car.
Looks like the G500 doesn't get the new front bumper; only the AMGs. Nice diferentiation.
I still do not see an option for remote start and keyless go. This seems insane to omit so I hope I'm wrong.
I'm still not sure if I like the new side mirrors over the square ones. Seems out of character for this car.
Lastly, and while I like the look of this car and the addition on the barabus style LEDs in general, I realy really miss the front push bar they removed in 2011 along wit the other bits of G Bling on the rear tails and turn signal brush guards.
Overall, I'm super impressed. I think this puts to rest any idea that MB is ever going to cancel or kill this beast.

2013 G 63 AMG
There is a cup holder for the driver just behind the COMAND controller...but it doesn't look to be any more practical than the old one.
"P" stands for "park". That's how you engage park on the new gearbox.
Keyless go would require a major redesign of the door handles and doors, something that has been judged to be impractical. Eventually some smart engineer will figure out a workaround.

Good point on the model year. Assuming they plan to carry the models for future years the idea that the 65 is a limited run of 200 will certainly be tested quickly and I've not doubt they will be gone before they actually start to hit the showroom floor. I would assume that they will build more of the 65s over time.

I know there was speculation that the G 65 was going to be a limited edition, but I haven't seen that mentioned in any official MB communication.
