Canepa Selling Second to Last 300SL Roadster Built

This car was built the day before the doors closed on 300SL production, and only one additional car was finished after it, making it, by definition, the penultimate 300SL.

This is a beautiful 300SL Roadster/Coupe! I owned it briefly in '88-'89, however got cold feet & backed out of the deal. I did extensive research on the last 6 300SL roadsters which were produced from 2/1/63-2/8/63. I published an article about the "Last of the Breed", titled "Six Days in February" in the 300 StarLetter, the monthly magazine of the Gull Wing Group. All was not lost, however, when my research led me to 300SL # 3254, the last 300SL delivered to America, & essentially identical to 3257. I bought #3254 in 1997 & put about 20,000- miles on it, while winning numerous concours awards, over 21 years of ownership. I visited #3257, shown above, last in August of 2018 at Canepa. I sold # 3254 several days later at the Gooding Pebble Beach Auction. I replaced my beloved 300SL with a spectacular SLS AMG Roadster several months later. The beat goes on!!!! I believe that this one is still available at Canepa.
