Hello MB World, I was messing around on the web last night & I found a site that will decode your VIN number. This site will break down the option(s) on the car and list each one. Why mess around with Russian websites when you can get the information directly from MBUSA.

Just subscribe for free at http://epc.startekinfo.com

Then run a "datacard."

Side benefit is you can look up all the parts on your car.

I have a Sept 2008 C-Class, but the website could not decode and came back with the following:

Datacard for VIN WDD2040562Axxxxxx is not found
1) VIN was misspelled in the request form;
2) VIN was erroneously read from vehicle body or documents;
3) VIN is not of an original vehicle and was forged by criminals;
4) The vehicle was produced in late 2005 or 2006, and is not included yet in our database

You'll need to use the Russian site if...

1 - You run Linux as your operating system or have a Mac

2 - You do not have a credit card with a US billing address

3 - You do not or can not install Java Runtime on your computer

Don't worry about the credit card. You are dealing with Mercedes Benz. They will submit a $1 charge to your credit card and credit $1 a couple of days later. Unless you check your credit card online frequently you'll never know it happened.

Hey, after STFFing I found this old thread and signed up as suggested, then ran a datacard. I'm having some trouble interpreting the data though. For example, what I'm currently hoping to find is an interior color code so I'll know what color floor mats to buy (already bought wrong shade of gray once); I see an 810A and an 808A, and both say "Amaretta/leather/nappa/semi-aniline"....is one of those my interior color code?

I've already asked a similar question relating to this topic on another thread, but may I ask for clarification - does a VIN beginning with 'WDD' denote the vehicle was manufactured in Germany ??

Is there a complete listing of those codes which show all manufactured Country of origins ??

Tried to subscribe on http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/ and although I am in US and have valid US credit card it will not allow registration. I tried it on Windows as well as Mac.

there are a couple alternatives if you don't want to give a CC # or use the Russian Site but still want to decode MB Vehicles

Manufacturers selling into the US have to register/report their VIN patterns to the NHTSA. While it is a pain to find them, these submissions are available for public consumption. They are specific to each manufacturer and sometimes each manufacturing plant. Finding them can be a little rough - but if you are only interested in a particular year range or model of MB might be a worthwhile resource. And you could post it to the forum for future use

A VIN book is available every year(put out by the NICB) that is a good resource for decoding Car and trucks as well as most of the major brands of motorcycles. It only costs ~$10 buck. But only covers the last 3-4 years of vehicles. They do sell older books if they have them in stock. Here is a link https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud...ss/vin-manuals

Online resources that I have found helpful are MotoVerse, they have a lot of coverage but not much depth of data, however it is free. (Don't fret over picking a brand as all the choices seem to lead to the same VIN decoder) - VIN Decoder for cars, trucks and motorcycles @ Motoverse.com

Another option if you are looking to decode a bunch of VIN's is to sign up for a free trail of Dataone Softwares online VIN decoder. You get 50 free decodes, however I have found that you need to provide some suggestion of a possible business use in order to get it turned on. They also have flat files available if you are looking to take the data and build something around it yourself. Probably not the best fit for recreational use but I have found their data to be solid and one of the few choices where you can get a trail without too much hassle that provides back a lot of data (though in XML format). It will return the option and color codes available for the vehicle (However it cannot tell you the ones that are installed).

Another online decoding option that I have found to be very accurrate is the ford fleet vin decoder. The only problem is, it does not provide the kind of depth of information that you are looking for. Reading posts in this great forum for long. Just start to post.
I'm looking at a 2003 S600 with Sport package.
Really need decode the VIN and know what options is included: WDBNG76J43A323345, hope someone can help and thanks in advance for your time.

Actually I was hesitated to ask for favor till I failed trying all the above sources suggested. Since I'm in Canada StarTekInfo reject my CC and Ford Fleet provided just very basic vehicle info.

By the way, this car had a $8000 accident back to 2004 and currently has rust around both side rear wheel wells. But I decided to buy as soon as dived into the seat and had a nice test drive.
- Listed as CAD$24k;
- Leased car with at least 3 previous owners;

Any thought is very much appreciated.

Hi everybody. My name is Jaap, I live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I own a 1994 E500 with a six liter Vaeth engine (386 hp :-) ), a 1985 W124 260E with a E320-24V engine and a nice 1986 W124 300D Turbo which is my daily driver. Now, this 300D turbo was imported from California about a year ago and it has a (non-European?) VIN number.
As I live outside of the USA I can't seem to access to the abovementioned VIN database. Could one of you maybe run my VIN, please?
