Hi there. I am about to make that very same decsision. How did that tire size work out for you? Thanks. Vance.

I too had Lionhart LH-FIVE 295/40R21 111V XL High Performance Tires installed back in December, and they have been excellent so far; after 8,000 miles there is little to no wear showing. Total cost delivered to my door from Mega Auto parts on eBay was $783.92, and had the local Goodyear store install them. I still see them on eBay for $836, shipping included. Took a chance on them given the very low cost, and based on my experience with them so far, I will not hesitate to buy again when next tires are due on the truck.

Good to hear, I may look at them.

Thanks for the feedback.

Bring this back up.

Debating 3 tires. The Continental ExtremeContact's on it were great, but didn't make it 20k. Would change if Federals are decent in snow or Michelin's last longer.

I run the Federals on my GL63 and they do great. I live in Florida so not sure about the snow handling but wet and dry traction is great. I just purchased 2 sets from Amazon for less than $150/tire shipped.

I ordered the Federals at Simpletire for $553 for a set of 4. I will get a review once I have them on next week. Snow rating was 4.0 out of 5. Not sure how much I will drive it this winter due to having Winter tires on my BMW.

Hey all,
I just joined the forum after purchasing a new to me 2012 GL550. Pic posted on Picture page.
I just had my wheels powder coated as their was areas of corrosion on the stock 21 AMG wheels.
They look good to me. I also had them install new Yokohama Geolander X-CV G057 295/40R21's
all season tires. I live in Minnesota where we have winter. I will report back on their performance.

Nice! I am up in Blaine. Discount Tire recommend the Yokos. I liked the Contential DWS's I had for winter traction. My other car has dedicated winter tires so I am not planning to drive my GL550 much this winter.

Edina here.
Salesman at Tire Rack suggested that Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season Plus were the highest rated tire at 295/40R21.
The Yokohama's were just below them I was told.

Interesting. I wouldn't touch Pirelli anything. I was going to check with Costco before ordering the Federal's but accidentally hit the purchase button. I have had great luck in the
past with some off brands but usually got input from a friend in the tire wholesaler business. We will see if this was $600 well spent or wasted. Honestly, I will be happy to get 15k
out of them. That might make it 2 years based on how I use my GL550. Sadly out of the 4 cars/suv's we have it is the only one that doesn't have winter tires. I had been debating
getting a set of winter wheels for it, but just don't drive it enough and it did so well last year on the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06's it didn't need them.

I replaced the Continental Extreme contact Dws’s with the Yokohama’s. Previous owner said only 8k on them. I saved them for the summer when I’ll swap back to the DWS. At least one more summer out of them for sure.

I'd like a more beefier tire for my 21 AMG's on my 2012 gl550. I'm not ready for tires yet, but I'm considering 265/45/21. Anybody running this size? It's close to stock size, but a little taller for more tire wall.

They are going to have about the same sidewall height, but be narrow. They might be on the narrow side for the 21x10 rims. I would love to put AT tires on mine in the winter, but would probably go with a 20-inch rim for that.

I think you could get a 50-55 sidewall height

Federals are on. No problems with balancing and are quiet. The Continentals had started to make a hum at 75mph. I might get to see how they handle snow here this week if I don't get my winter wheels swapped over on the BMW.

Winter storm watch in effect. 6 inches of snow with 35mph winds. Should be fun. At tires plus getting Bridgestone Revo3’s on my wife’s Kia Borrego.
I hope those federal tires are all season
gonna need it this week. More snow coming Friday.
ill have a report on my Yokohama’s on my GL550 by next week.

The Federals are very quiet. The reviews said they are good in the rain and they seem to handle cold well based on the drive home in wet snow that was not sticking to the ground. In the snow, they are just like most No-Season tires.

The winter wheels with Nokians will go on the BMW one of these days. I have not run a car without true winters tires for a few years now. 3 out of our 4 cars have them and they definitely make a huge difference.

Picked up a set of 2k miles, patch and defect-free Continental DWS06 off Mpls CL this fall for $800. Fella had sold his GL550 with winters on it. Not running my car from California in the winter (salt) and hoping to pick up a perfect set of GLS550 wheels for them.

Nice!!

I am looking for a set of 20 inch GL450 wheels to mount K02's on. That would be my preferred winter setup.

Debating if 18's would be better, but can't find many pictures of them on a GLx50..

I can tell you that my 550 looks quite comical with 18"s on it. Part of it is the slightly lower sidewall of the tires that were on these wheels when I got them, but even accounting for that, it just looks strange. Function over form, since I only got them for the Blizzaks they had already mounted, but definitely not using them again next year - I'll go find some 19"s at the bare minumum, 20"s ideally with dedicated snow tires. If I think of it, I'll take a picture of mine in the parking lot later today.

The sad part, is the mud on the tires actually helps the look lol

taking the running boards off might help that stance even out visually.
