ABS pump problem, no warning lights.

The ABS pump runs rough, makes a lot of noise and vibrations, it doesnt stop when the car is switched off. It stays on for 5 minutes then eventually stops.

I know this is quite a common issue, ive researched it and it seems to be caused by either a bad relay, or a bad pump motor.

The problem:

1) I cant find a relay chart for the x164 GL500
so i dont know which relay is for the ABS pump.

2) I cant find a stand alone motor as a replacement, and i dont know the part number.

3) I dont know what brushes or bearings to get if i wanted to repair it myself.

I found some info for the w164 ML but not much for the x164. If anyone has useful information about this it would be a great help. Thank you gentlemen.

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Do you have an ABS caution?

where’s the noise coming from?

Theres no abs light, the brakes work fine, but the noise is coming from the abs pump.

Do you know which relay is for the abs pump

Reason I’m asking is - with no other cautions or warnings, and normal brake performance are you sure it’s the ABS pump and not the airmatic compressor?

they are on opposite sides of the engine bay towards the front bumper. Aimatic compressor just behind the bumper on the offside front wheel. (Right front wheel for a left hand steering vehicle).

The whereabouts of the abs relay should be printed on the front relay/fuse box.

Thank you for the reply Max. Well im sure its not the air compressor, im 100% certain its the ABS pump. I stopped driving the car right when the noise started so i didnt really give a chance for anything to light up on the dash I think.

I have researched the issue and a lot of people had success just replacing the relay. So I want to try the simplest solution first. I can find the fuse chart, but not a diagram for the relays. Its suppose to be with the toolkit in the spare wheel well, but I cant find it there. and the fuse box itself doesnt have any diagrams on it. only numbers for the fuses and letters under the relays. If theres anyone who has the relay diagram or knows which relay is for the ABS pump it would be very helpful.
