new owner gl450 with question re: dvd playing
Hi, love the truck. It is a 2011 gl450
How do I "send" the dvd playing in the front to the back to be played over suv speakers on the back screens?
I cant seem to do this. The screens on the rear remain off unless I use a remote to turn them on. It does not match the front loaded dvd BUT I can put a dvd in the rear player and play with headsets.
other question how do I put a dvd in the rear and play thru suv speakers and NOT the headsets?

I'm just learning this stuff also, the manual makes for slow reading!!
With the dvd in the rear, you can set the speakers by selecting "audio", then scroll down to "rear". This will set the sound to the dvd. Also, you can select "sound", and have it just come out the rear (fader control), and/or just one side (balance control).
As for inserting the dvd in the front, no problem. I still had to turn on the rear unit with the remote. Then I selected DVD-Video on the command center, scrolled down to "activate audio/video source for rear".
Hope this helps!
Rick

thanks rick.
I tried all that and when and it simply does not work
"As for inserting the dvd in the front, no problem. I still had to turn on the rear unit with the remote. Then I selected DVD-Video on the command center, scrolled down to "activate audio/video source for rear""
Iclick that and nothing happens. Front screen goes blank for a few seconds than comes back on. Rear remains blank.
maybe wiring problem with my car?

Would this work for my 08 gl450? My read under the seat dvd player has stopped working, and really need a quick fix for a long road trip coming up shortly with 2 toddlers! No time to travel the 200 miles to the MB dealer to fix the dvd reading error.
I'd love to know how to get a dvd to work on the back screens from the front console! Thanks in advance!

Can't get DVD from front to back
I know this is an old thread but I have the same problem. I've followed the above but something is off for me.
Just purchased a 2011 gl450 cpo and took possession today. The DVD screens were cracked so they put in brand new ones and now I can't figure it out for some reason.
If I place a DVD in the front it plays fine in the dash. I checked the video section and place a mark next to "active aud/vid source for rear" - that makes the screen black for a few seconds and then comes back. Unfortunately nothing changes in the rear.
In the back seat the choices are DVD (no disc in the back player so this does nothing); aux and settings. Under aux my two options are:
Display Aux, and
Disc Drive Aux.
Neither does anything I guess because I don't have anything on the internal drive.
Please help! This is frustrating - especially for something I would think I would figure out immediately.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You seem to be doing everything right...
I went to the car just now. In the rear screen, under AUX screen, clicked "Source" in the bottom menu bar. This brought me the following 4 choices:
COMAND Video
COMAND Audio
Display Aux
Disc Drive Aux
I chose COMAND Video and the movie started showing on the rear screen. The sound came through the headset as well.
It seems you are missing the two choices needed. You mentioned they installed new screens. Maybe they forgot to connect some cables with the front and caused that?

screen shots?
I was wondering that myself. What settings need to be done up front in order for the options to show up in the rear?
Also - can someone kindly post some pics of how they get this to work?
Again - what I see under Aux in the rear is just Display Aux and Disk Drive Aux.
thanks again!

I also thought it was needed to "send" the movie from the front to the back first. I just tried again and it is not true. I don't have to do anything up front to choose COMAND Video or COMAND Audio in the back. Of course, it would be blank if nothing is sent from the front. But the point is, they are there all the time.
Here are two pictures I took just now. COMAND was playing radio and nothing was sent to the back. Come to think of it, it could be a software issue that they may have to run the program again after the screens are installed.

Going back to dealer...
Going back to the dealer on Thursday. It's under warranty anyway but I'm guessing like you that someone didn't program everything.
While I am at it - should I try to get them to update the overall telematics somehow? Not sure if there have been any updates but I got them to do it to my S550 once and all sorts of new bells and whistles popped up - that was before the bird's eye was standard, etc.
Any updates for the GL?

Did the dealer resolve it?

Did you ever get this fixed?
I'm having the same problem with a 2010, wondered if you have a solution?
Thanks in advance.

Now, next question. Is there a way to get the rear headrest to turn on automatically every time, or do you always have to use the remote to individually turn each on?
