Nope ... not gonna weep!! Congrats! I think its great! I also know that the 20mpg i get on long trips in my 450 is better than what I ever got in my Grand Cherokee, or the Yukon, or the Suburban before that. So I'm happy for you and for me......... and my "other car" is a 2010 Prius currently averaging 49.8mpg over the last 546 miles. I've got the bases covered....

I just got 16.6 average for 150 mile mostly highway trip with my 6.0 liter V8 in the Saab. OK, I was averaging 75-80 and it doesn't have a decent overdrive but thankfully my "normal" commute is 15 miles...

First of all - what is " the best suv that can take me to the colorado mountains with high performance " ? What do you mean when you say that ?

GL550 has more powerful engine and low profile wheels/tires compared to GL450. Everything else in GL450 almost identical if the car has all options.

In your case - I think as long as you can see Mercedes Emblem on a hood - you good to go

Hi.

You are very welcome to come and hang out on this forum as often as you'd like. The way you asked your question - I just understood that you are a housewife, which has no idea about GL driving and performance abitilties. My privious post was an explanation and a joke together. Any model of GL will take you to Colorado mountains fast and safe (and with style).

Have a good holiday.

A couple of fast cars.
Going from an Escalade that we've been averaging 12.6 mpg to over 20 in the GL350 seems great to me!

i have to say the GL350 and mpg and torque is awesome - we were looking for one but there were no lease deals when we bought the 450 - we came from a 2010 QX56 (avg 13.5 mpg) and that thing was a tank compared to the 450 (avg 16-18 on fwy) - and surprisingly the 450 is pretty peppy - all that really matters is that the wife is happy

any difference between GL 320 or 450/550 in cargo space?

Is there a difference between gl 320 and gl 450 cargo space.

Looking for a full cargo liner for my dog.

Aftermarket seems limited.

Hmm diesel sounds good but i assume the maintnance on that would be higher. Just had a 300 mile trip on my GL550 and got 19.5mph going 75mph. I am pretty impressed with overall ride and comfort. I had a 2010 GLK with 22's and got about 23-24 going 75.

Boston-Washington, D.C. - Round Trip

2009 GL320 Bluetec - almost 60K miles.

Maybe more incredible than the mileage is the average speed for over 900 miles in the Northeast Corridor!

I find it amusing reading the multiple posts from diesel owners bragging about the mpg they are getting!

Definately amusing for the rest of us weeping... because we are getting a few mpg less while we pay an average of fourty cents less per gallon at the pump and getting amazing performance! Come on! It's like you guys feel obligated to justify your purchase! I for one could not really care less!

Here in California, diesel currently costs the same as mid-grade gas and less than premium.

You're not getting "a few mpg less," you're getting 30-40% less.

That math works out for me just fine.

In western PA the difference ranges from 4 cents to 25 cents the past few months and even more the past year. Ok you may be getting up to 30% more miles. My point is "congratulations" !!! You spent $75K for a vehicle only to be concerned with mpg? That's at least an extra 30-40% on top of what an average respectable vehicle costs that can go even 36+ mpg. What kind of math s that? If I wanted an efficient car I d get one. And no the diesel does not provide both. It's performance is lacking compared to the gas model. You don't see any threads saying "335/390 HP : Diesel owners read it and weep", do you? Who cares is my point exactly! Each is there for a purpose. The diesel is for folks that drive a lot of long distances daily or pull boats and don't really care about performance too much. The gas is more than perfect for my wife to haul the kids to school and run errands with our occasional weekend trips. I also love to step on it and drive as hard as a SUV allows. To each his own! My complaint is that I continuously read comments from cheapskates that are amazed about their mpg! News flash! If you buy a Prius you ll get 40 mpg + ...

I bough the GL specifically because it was available with a diesel. I had an Escalade that could also tow my trailer but it was ridiculous commuting to work in traffic at 11 mpg, no matter how much "performance" it had.

Well, no. It tows better than the gas one (and WAY WAY better than the Escalade) and that's 50% of what I bought it for. My race trailer is heavy.

This part I agree with.

Maybe you should not care so much what people on an internet forum think? It seems to be raising your blood pressure for no apparent reason.
