It tends to be inaccurate for me until i start driving it around for a minute or so. My subaru does the same.

Mark is correct, the sensor needs airflow for a few minutes of driving to get the correct temp. If your car has been sitting after driving, it can show extremely high temps when you first start up. I have a 2005 Z4 that the sensor reads exactly what it read when I shut the car off- hot or cold. Then it also requires a few minutes of driving to get the right temp.
So, Blee- drive for a bit and you should get an accurate reading. Cheers
