won't go into gear

In the last couple weeks I've noticed that sometimes my GL350 2011 won't shift into gear from park. Not into D or R, I have to turn it off restart and try again. Sometimes it takes more than 1x doing this before it shifts and I can drive off. My dealership doesn't have a tsb on it or have and of the tech heard that complaint....

I've had the truck since May and this is the first issue, anyone had same thing happen? Oh, I'm not close to a dealership, so until it leaves me beside the road I have to live with it....

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Had that happen to me when I received a replacement key that was only partially programmed...it would unlock and start the car, but not let me put it in D. Just reverse.

Now that you say something about the key, I replaced the key batteries because it said that they needed replacing. I didn't know which one so I did both, I wonder if that had anything to do with it. It work 90% of the time and then not, I'm going to watch more and see if there is a pattern.

GL 320cdi, Chevrolet Avalanchero, GLE 350 (on order)
There is a battery that runs the shifter, sounds like you might need one of those, but it usually comes with a red warning light in the cluster.

They have actually put in a few hundred of these, do you think it might be the issue?

Yes I have one and it was fine for awhile until recently. Try to bypass, mine has not done it since. Spoke to autostart company apparently needs software upgrade. This is a known problem.

How do I bypass?

The boys at Andre's Electronics put in a Mercedes only starter that works off the orig key by firstech I believe, then for distance they convinced me to also put in a compustar 2way. Can you detail exactly what I should do, it's really cold and I haven't been using the starter to try and find out if it's still acting weird, which of course it hasn't since then.

Mine works off the orig key by pressing the panic button. Works fine until last winter. I contacted the company and got a call immediately, they offered to upgrade the software since it's a known problem. Unfortunately, the cost for me is not worth it since the tech will be coming from 200 miles away, remove the unit, upgrade and install it back. I have bypassed the starter by turning off the switch installed inside the glove compartment. The problem is now gone. Once in awhile , I'll flick the switch back on and try but same problem occurs. I am planning on removing the unit completely either send it back for upgrade/reprogramming or just leave it off completely.

I've sent messages to firstech and the installing facility to see what they can to do fix this issue being that I'm over 1000kms away from their store. I was only worried that it would do damage to the truck and then have to pay for my own tow bill to the Mercedes dealership. Thanks for your help!!

Keep us posted. I'm interested to hear if it is the same problem as mine.
