Exclamation Sunroof - please help!!!

Just got a 2007 GL450 last Friday. So far, love the truck.

My girlfriend accidentally opened the sunroof when it was really cold here, and it is somehow jammed. I got it to close however. I thought maybe it had frozen up....can't be too angry with her, she wanted the dome light, and we had it 3 days... honest mistake.

Today it's 51 degrees, same result. Can't be frozen now....

The back will lift up, and come back down. It will not move forward or backward at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

Uhhh motor is possibly broken? Bring it to a shop I guess to have them look at it.

Take a look at your owners manual.
http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...7_gl_class.pdf

If it is still stuck in the open position there should be a couple of little tools in your glovebox to manually operate the sunroof. See page 503 for the procedure.

It also may need to be synchronized. See pages 255 and 256.

Hopefully that takes care of it.

George, thanks for the resync tip, however it will not move fore and aft at all, and that procedure calls for it to be fully open and fully closed during the procedure.

I know the motor is good....

I was hoping someone out there had a shop manual or a diagram for it, before I pay my mechanic a ton of labor to mess with it.

Found the manual closing procedure, but of course the tool MB gives you in the owners manual has gone missing - what would the previous owner do with it?

Were you able to find the manual operation tools to see if a re sync solves your problem?

Negative. The tools MB included new have gone missing. I wonder what the drive looks like? Maybe just a metric hex head?

It doesn't sound good when you try to operate it electrically though, I think something is busticated.

How about taking it to your local MB dealer at least to close the roof properly? They will probably won't charge you anything. I had the same problem a decade ago with my trusty 190E and they closed the roof for me without charge. While at it they gave me a quote for repairs.
Just a thought

it is missing because this is an existing problem with your truck

do you have a 30-day (or similar) warranty from the dealer?

the moonroof is annoying to work on. many plastic flimsy parts- quite a few things to go wrong.

I managed to get the roof closed (weathertight) for now, I want to get it working again. As I recall it the roof worked fine, my significant other accidentally tried opening it while frozen, therefore busticating something. So I cant beat on the guy who sold it to me.

The tool to close it manually has gone missing I presume the same way manuals, jacks, etc are typically missing from a used car.

I was hoping someone had some documentation on how to get the headliner, etc apart without damaging anything. I am reasonably mechanically savvy, so once summer comes and my E55 is on the road, I can garage the truck and have at it. I just don't want to go into this totally blind.

I have a body shop near me I consult for questions such as this. If you can find one that works on high end cars - so much the better. They should be able to give you a good idea on how to start.
Good luck
