Considering a used 2007 GL450 - advice?
Buying from a friend for my wife. It has high mileage (almost 60,000) but it's someone I know and trust, and a good deal. Just wondering for those of you who have creeped into this mileage range if there's anything I should be aware of - maintenance, issues, etc. Thanks.

None, I am also in the East Bay and just turned 89,000 on mine. Other than the known air compressor recall and the infamous rear head camshaft oil seal leak, mine has been flawless with only routine maintenance. The GL does eat tires though! Best SUV or truck I have ever owned and it and the dealer (MB of Pleasanton) have sold me on the brand as a keeper. I drive a lot of long trips and either around town or on a road trip, it drives like a big cat, and all my friends/family comment on how nice the ride and seating are...

I wouldn't consider 5x,xxx miles high mileage, but this coming from a guy who's at 99,000 on his 2007. The vehicle could be 5.5 years old.
My main issues have been 1) Comand went out around 60,000, had to replace under extended warranty, 2) rear strut and air shock bag replaced at 85,000 miles under extended warranty and 3) rear tailgate motor/relay replaced at 95,000 miles under extended warranty.
Tires are about every 25,000 - 30,000 miles. I don't think that's too much different than other high speed rated soft tires, but I could be wrong.
I don't consider that too bad.

Mine has been great so far with 100,000+ miles. Replaced one bad air strut, leaking steering fluid reservoir, and both seals on the back of the valve covers. The air strut was replaced under aftermarket warranty and the others under factory CPO warranty.

Seriously consider an extended warranty. Some of them are pretty reliable, but even minor problems can be expensive if repaired at the Benz dealer. Some of them (I have aobut 40 of them under extended warranty plans) get expensive to own FAST, and you would be crazy to not have a warranty.
If you want to email me I can give you some tips on how to buy one, what to look for, warranty prices, etc.
