Use GL450 to Jump Start another car?
Was working on my BMW in the garage and when i went to start it up, my battery was dead. So the only other car around was the GL450. Thankfully the BMW battery is in the trunk which made getting to very easy, however, with the GL450 battery under the seat, how in the heck do i get the jumper cables to it? Is there a negative connection in the hood somewhere?

Only the positive terminal is there. There is also a brass negative post but can I connect to that to jumpstart another car? I thought that was only to be used to jump the GL.

I have used my 07 GL450 to jumpstart my sister's old POS 98 Chevrolet Cavalier when she left her headlights on over the night which of course drained the battery.
Like aggst1 said, the battery terminals are under the hood on the passenger side right around near there. I believe if I can remember... it was a red and black colored covering that you take off in order to access the terminals for the hook up. I'm sure it'll work for you for your BMW.

Positive battery connection (brass) is under a red plastic cover near the R hinge hood. I use a bolt on the end of the sway strut going across the top of the engine for the negative -ground connection. Another, less accessible, ground point is on the inside of the engine compartment on the R fender well - vertical portion - about a foot from the front. It is a bolt where a several wires are bonded to ground. 4 or 5 wires come together at that spot.

Thanks. Its weird. I tried to jump it using the points you all mentioned (the positive terminal under the red cap, and the negative terminal at the brass post nearer the front of the car and it didn't work. Go figure. So i just called in AAA, they hooked up a portable jump starter and it fired up immediately. Maybe the negative terminal isn't grounded properly?

This is all for future reference since you got the Bimmer going anyway.

Jump starting information is always in owners manual.
