How waterproof is my key?
#3
Thanks. My old ML had a regular manual key that I could simply hang around my neck while sailing. The new key systems don't have this option....

You should have this option. Leave your keyless card at home if you have keyless go. Take the manual key out of your fob, leave the key fob in the car, and lock the drivers door.

My wife washed her keyless go fob for her 2010 E 350 in the washing machine. I took the battery out and dried it with her hair dryer. It would lock and unlock the doors by pushing the buttons on the fob but keyless didn't work. I put the fob in the ignition and turned it and the car started. After stopping it, it all worked properly again. I don't know if manually starting it reset it or if it was just a fluke but we got lucky and it worked. However I would not recommend letting the fob get wet. One of those marine seal packs should do the trick. You can look online or possibly go to a marine dealer or Bass Pro Shop etc to find one.
Good luck

As mentioned on a previous note, I mistakenly jumped into the Gulf of Mexico with my keyless go key in my pocket. After noting my mistake, I got back into the boat, rinsed the key with fresh water, and air dryed it in the sun.
This incident occurred over 3 months ago and the keyless go has no problems at all. It appears that this key is waterproof sealed, thank goodness to MB.

Same story here. All is well. My wife (actually me) ran the keys through the washer and left them overnight. The lock button worked (didn't try anything else as to not damage it). I popped the back off and dried it with a hair drier, then blew it out with an air compressor. I stored it in a bag of rice for a few hours before trying it. It worked.
I am going to leave in the bag of rice overnight for good measure.
