Travel to Canada
I am planning on driving to Canadian Rockies for a week. Never driven to Canada before. Please advise regarding few concerns. Will have to read the manual to figure out changing from miles to Km.
1. Does the inbuilt navigation cover Canada, and if so is it decent? (2011 GL 350)
2. Do we have to change the light beam pattern for HID lights?
3. Do we have to carry the original title or a photo copy be sufficient?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Looks like Diesel is cheaper and same price as regular. Hope all diesel is ULSD there.

-> Yes, you should have good map coverage (at least we do in Toronto)
2. Do we have to change the light beam pattern for HID lights?
-> Nothing required. You'll be happy you have those brighter HIDs for looking farther dow the road.
3. Do we have to carry the original title or a photo copy be sufficient?
-> Your photocopy front and back should be fine. Valid insurance is the more important one.
Most if not all are ULSD - just make sure prior to fill up.

Thanks nynd & Brocktoon
From Yellowstone take I 90 to I 15 all the way to Canadian border. From there to Calgary through some state highway. No idea which is better. Then from Calgary to Banff, and then to Jasper via Ice Field Parkway. From Jasper to Edmonton, and then to Winnepeg via Sasskatoon.
1. Can you suggest any other alternative from Yellowstone to Banff. Trying to avoid too much visual overload of same stuff on the way to Banff.
2. Is driving on TCH 16 safe or is it boring. Would I be better off driving from Edmonton to Calgary, take TCH 1 instead to Winnepeg.
Do you guys have any idea about auto insurance coverage when driving to Canada. Do I have to inform my insurance carrier?. Does AAA cover Canada through CAA?

my wife bananas! :D
AAA works in Canada so no problem. Just make sure you have your AAA card.
This sounds like quite a trip. Should be alot of fun (guessing this is a family trip). How many little ones will the truck be carrying?

Dude, how long is this trip? Winnipeg is not a destination I would check out. If it was me, I would focus on Calgary, Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise. Maybe add Edmonton, There is so much to check out in Alberta, and a pop over to British Columbia. You can really, I mean really skip Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg. I warn you you will regret not spending more time in Alberta and BC. All roads will be pretty good, again, I would avoid the drive all the way to Winnipeg, there are things to see, but they are kinda specialized, Like Red River history, Riel, etc. If this means nothing to you I suggest you spend more time in the west...

Its a 16 day trip. I live in Fargo, so either I drive to Winnipeg and down I 29 to Fargo or drive down to Montana and take I 94 back to Fargo. Since I will be driving on I 94 to Yellowstone, I don't want to drive on the same boring road again. Any preference between Route 1 vs 16?
Planning to move from Fargo to Texas. So I would like to drive to all these places as it is less likely I will ever fly/drive to these places again. I only have 9000 miles in 15 months.
Thank you Fung63
It's 4 adults + 2 kids. Don't ask me about space for luggage. I have Thule 2100 cargo box.

If you need specific advice about destinations ion this trip, you can PM me. I sorta figured you were just returning to ND on that Prairie leg, but the roads will be better and the gas cheaper in the US, just so you know.
Between the Trans Canada and the Yellowhead? Take your pick, but if your question is Regina and Calgary vs. Edmonton and Saskatoon? I'd say highway 1 and Calgary...
