Angry Keyless go retrofit.

Good Day,

just gom my GL 450, nice car but would want to have a push buton start, it seems it didnt come with this option, what parts would I need if I want to convert it. I dont need the doors to be keyless, just the PUSH BUTON START.

Any assistance apreciated.

Probably ask MBenzNL on this forum. He's done the retrofit before and it requires a lot of parts. Honestly, we're probably looking at more than one would be willing to spend.

I agree. You would be better of trading the car for one that has that option. A retrofit would be that expensive. A pair of new keys alone (they have special transmitters in them) would cost about $600 without any programming. I can only imagine the cost of other components needed.

And even if you had the necessary parts, do you have access to the special M-B computer system required to 'teach' the car that the parts are there so they function properly? ie added software.

Having several cars with and without keyless go - I don't see any big/expensive problem to do it if you interested only in Push Start button. You will probably need 2 new keys - about $300 each, Button and software update. It may cost about 1 grand, but if you agree to pay and you wanna have it- why not. Ask your dealer first and start from there.

Yes I have the MB Star system, so that should not be a problem, as it is I only have one key, so if I get one new one and the buton, but where do I get the software?

I'd be very surprised if the needed programming was available anywhere OTHER THAN the proprietary, in house, M-B computer system. Does your star system talk to the M-B servers? IF so, ask your dealer for the codes you will need to download and install the software.
