Shortest distance or time on 2011 GL?

Does anyone know if you can change the factory settings on the nav? I haven't been able to find out, and I think it is set to shorest distance, but I might benefit from shortest time.

I had the same problem last week when traveling from NYC to Ocean City in MD. Instead of going on highways it was telling me to go thru lights, it might of been the shortest distance but for sure it wasn't the fastest way would love someone to explain if it can be changed???

After a little digging, there seems to be a fix albeit in a very backwards way. I have not tried it, but I think the way to do it punch in the destination, then go to route, there you should be able to select the fastest, shortest, etc through the alternate route option. Have not tried, will report back when I do.

The default can be changed through the Command menu. I do not remember the precise process but it is clearly explained in the Command manual, (not the vehicle handbook).

But whichever you select, take care.

Shortest route will take you on some back lanes, and even "proposed" roads. Be prepared for some U-turns, and rough tracks.

Fastest route always prefers freeways and ignores secondary roads.

For a route I often take, it suggests a freeway through the centre of Melbourne (population 4 million) which adds 100km to the route. Pull up an alternate and it suggests a mountain route to another freeway which is a similar distance.

But I take the direct route, which saves that 100km and almost an hour. The problem is it based on a cruising speed of 60km/hr on the secondary highway, whereas I cruise at 100~110km/hr safely.

Around town, I use the fastest route as a guide.
