Does MB give build numbers and an ability to track building process as well as delivery ETA?

I am being told late August but my dealer but historically not the most informed.

My experience is the dealers are all somewhat in the dark. Factory is balancing getting cars to various regions and timing is often a month after their estimate.

I was at the dealership this weekend and my sales rep showed me on the computer what cars they had on order and their build status.

So they should be able to show your vehicle.

If it is in the first batch of cars they have been built and should be released in September with the Bluetecs in October. (AMG is Q1/2013) They may release them for sale the last week of August but the rate that the 2012s sell down will determine this.

I just talked to my dealer about a GL350. He said they have an initial 'allocation' of 2. They are in 'pre-build' status so they can be modified. I intercepted one of them and have a new GL350 that is scheduled for build in October and delivery in November.

Now I'm waiting like an expecting parent.

They told me up front that if I wanted that vehicle that I'd be paying sticker price. I do however have Mercedes Fleet program available to me through my work, so I did get to apply that.

In terms of options, it's loaded. My 2007 is loaded and I find it hard to give up features. Here's my options:

For anyone interested, the 843 - "EASY Entry system, 2nd row power release" is not going to be available until the 2014 MY.

It also appears that the panoramic sunroof has a delayed availability, not clear when they will offer that.

The Surround View feature in the Parktronic package is also not available.

Anyone have any factory connections to shed some light on the Panoramic roof not being available?

Also, I'm wondering what will be on my roof? I know I'll have the moonroof above the first row seats. I won't have anything above the 2nd row seats, but I'm wondering if the 3rd row seats will have the sunroof like the current GLs? Anyone know?

1) Why isn't the panoramic roof available?
2) What does the roof look like without panoramic roof?

At the end of this video there's a shot on the inside of the panoramic roof. How does that address my questions?

Okay...I misunderstood your question, but there is no reason to be so hyper..I was just trying to help. I guess helping people is a bad thing.
In your case - your roof will look the same way it looks on 2012 model. Hope it helps.

P.S. Obviously I have no idea why it's not available.

I found that interesting too. Could be lots of reasons, my speculation is that the 2012 system looks like an aftermarket system, it seems to stick out more and be more susceptible to bumping/damage. Maybe MB figures that for it to still command a $2,000 adder for the option it needed to be more integrated.

I personally have RSE in my 2007, but for my 2013 I'm going to look at some tablet mechanism for the back seat. I did pay for the pre-wiring in hopes that will help enable power docking.

I can at least answer your second question. Without the panoramic roof, you just get the sunroof. The link below shows picture of the GL (with AMG sport package but without panoramic roof) that surfaced last spring.

You may also get another perspective on the roof from the video below which is of the same silver GL as in the pictures (the MB Chase video)


That is really a disappointing news on the availability of the pano roof and power easy entry for the third row. I am not sure I would go ahead with a new GL now without either option as I think they are important (more so the pano roof for me but my wife really wants the easy entry for the kids).

It is also disappointing that MB touted the power easy entry option in all of its early promo work with the press but now that may not be available at all this year. Something must have gone wrong regarding durability of that option for MB to pull it.

Thanks for sharing, I was worried about the same thing - it might just be the front sunroof. I'd think this is a pretty good indicator.

I don't know why, I speculate they are having issues in crash testing/safety.

In case you haven't seen it yet, MBUSA has finally updated its website so we can now build the 2013 GL450 and 550 (but not the 350 yet).

They don't mention the 360 surround view camera in the park assist option, does that mean its delayed or no longer an option I wonder.
