GLOWPLUG RELAY LOCATION
Have 78,000 miles on my 07 GL320CDI and CEL (check engine light) has been on for several months. Mechanic suggested we replace water pump with slow leak but light stayed on.
Asked question on MB forums and appreciate you guys helping out a CDI girl! Someone suggested a glow plug problem. Asked mechanic to check it out and all glow plugs were fine but CEL remained on. Did more research and someone had replaced the glowplug relay so decided to try that. It was a really easy job and I didn't even get my hands dirty while saving $30 I would have paid the mechanic! He also quoted $164 for the part and I paid $114 plus shipping through www.trademotion.com!
Word of caution! Remove bolts with star socket - each is a different length and one in front is long with nut at bottom so make a note when you remove! Unit is under the silver bracket with 4 bolts to right of black thingie with bar code. CEL was still on so I disconnected the battery (located under the front passenger seat) for about 30 seconds, reconnected and the CEL is off!
As a side note, www.trademotion.com has genuine MB parts at great prices. My mechanic quoted me $1738 for parts and labor to replace both rear shocks. I purchased the shocks at $248 + shipping each from them and paid $264 for mechanic to install them.
Happy Mercedeing!
