assuming average condition and needing nothing the dealer will give you 40k or thereabouts for your truck.

I have 2011 GL350 with almost 18K miles on it ( which is nothing compared to yours). MSRP when new - $73K. One dealer gave me $42K, another one - $46K.
My car stays on autotrader for almost 2 months already - no anybody interested. Put it on Ebay 3 times - no bids. Was ready to sell it for $50K - seems like people not interested at all. Good Luck with sale. After all this problems with sale - I decided to lease my next car.

Your GL has pretty high miles and is the least desired engine config, so it's going to suffer.

To give you some context, we just bought a Certified Pre-Owned GL-450 with P1, P2, Leather, Lighted Sills, heated steering wheel, Rear entertainment, interior lighting package, 4 brand new Conti tires, and 42K miles for $42,000. They did $3,500 to the truck to earn the "Certified" designation. None of that expense was extrordinary (oil changes, trans fluid change, tires, alignment, brake fluid change, etc) The original price on this 2010 was $76,100. The car was almost perfect and very clean.

I would imagine they gave a trade-in of around $30-33K to the poor soul who was the first owner.

Actually this is completely incorrect. The diesel is by a long shot the most desirable and depreciation- proof model in the lineup. The 450 is a disaster. And the 550 sucks matter and converts it into antimatter for all I care.

Yeah, GL450's are way more popular in L.A. than GL350's (I think it's vice versa anywhere else!) However, I do have $34,000 left in payments AND Gl350's tend to hold up their value more than the other models. Hopefully, I can break even. The SUV is in excellent condition. It has barely any swirls and I blackfired it about a month ago after using paint cleansers and a light Menzerna polish. Hopefully, some dealer will take note of the excellent paint condition!

I'm hoping! That would give me equity in the car

Yep, and since when 69K miles is "high miles", especially for diesel engines?

With proper maintenwnce the 3 liter cdi engine is designed to achieve maximum cylinder compression at 100k miles. Ie it is fully broken in. The compression then stays fairly constant up to about 300k miles at which point it starts to deteriorate slowly. The effective lifespan of those engines is 500k or more on the conservative side.

Well, we are both wrong. I just did a look up on Kelly Blue Book for a 2010 model with 50K miles....only standard options. If you take the "Excellent" category, it turns out like this.

GL-350 $39,698
GL-450 $35,621
GL-550 $46,426

Here in the midwest, Diesels are NOT popular.

(btw, the numbers above are for trading in to a dealer, not a private sale and not what they retail for. Yes, I know that dealers don't use these numbers, its for comparison only)

diesels might not be popular in the midwest, but they do get shipped to the east and west coast where they fetch prime money.

and how i am wrong? the 350 has the lowest msrp, but is worth more than the 450 in 3 years. the only reason the 550 is worth 7 grand more is because it has a 90k msrp. percentage-wise it sucks the most.

btw, my numbers come from completely different source. kbb is a guideline for consumers and largely irrelevant in any dealings with a dealer.

Wow, considering the 350 retailed for $1000 less, that means that the 450 depreciated $5,000 more than than the 350 did in 3 years.

I couldn't get past the statement of giving a newly licensed driver a C63 or Boxster! lol

That's like giving an alcoholic the keys to lock up the bar at night

Where do you live so I can be on the lookout...

True...it might be a bit too much not to mention I can't negotiate on those...I was looking for a 2012 C63 leftover but it was sold... :/
Haha SoCal! JK I thought I might be able to get one of these under 800/month. Maybe an SLK350 or something that I could drive on weekends as well.
P.S. He's been driving my GL accident free for over 2 years

Dealer offered $34K when I owed $35,091. I had to pay the difference, but hell, I sure am glad since I ended up with a 2013 Black/Black SLK350 w/ Sport Package, Lighting Package, Multimedia, Pano Roof, Black Ash Wood Trim, Rear Spoiler, and all the rest of the goodies on it!

Thanks to everyone on this forum! I look forward to helping you all out with your X164 problems.

Now that my third GL, my 2010, has been sold, I guess I can look forward to replacing the E350 with a GL450 or 550 when the lease goes back in 8 months!
