Added light kit, brakes, cam cover leaks and mods!

Did the chrome oval fog mod, as I could not stand the black fogs. Took only 20 minutes and used a sharp box cutter to trim and went quick.

before

After

These are the 3 cam cover plugs located on back of valve covers. One of mine was leaking, so changed them all. Very easy job and parts were cheap. Tech said many of them leak.

Also changed rotors and added Akebono euro pads and I use them on ALL my cars and SUV. Dust free and stop great!

Last, while changing cam plugs and while air box was off, I removed the restrictive MAF screen from the MAF meter.

Any update on the turbo kit you were going to make for your GL?

Are the Akebono pads you use ceramics? I'm thinking about changing all of mine over on the next brake service for all the cars since the stock OEM pads shed dust like crazy.

Dust = soft pads.

Hard pads = worn rotors.

I always prefer replacing pads than rotors.

Stock brakes setup on the gl is well matched to the vehicle.

No sir, The CL has had me tied up and now the Wife wants us to just trade in for the new Bi turbo GL , instead of re-inventing the wheel.

Yes they are the Akebono Euro ceramic and no dust. They stop better than the stock Mb pads (IMO) and are a generally softer feel to brake with. I have usede them for many years and have not had premature rotor wear but either way ,, stopping is more important to me , since I also tow. The stock pad brake dust sucks pad and seems to ball up on the pads to me.

BTW, removing the MAF screen helped my throttle response.

Thanks, I've heard nothing but good things about Akebono's ceramic pads. I think I'll definitely give them a go next time.

Sounds like it's time to get a GL63!

Wrong.

Stock pads are the cheapest quality they can get away with while still producing adequate stopping friction. They are designed to wear quickly and produce a trip to the service department for costly replacement. Ceramic is a much better way to go. They provide superior performance, minimual dust, longer wear, and I have never read where they create faster wear on the rotors. The only real down side to ceramic is that they tend to be more noisy and sometimes squeak.
