I paired my iPhone 5 fine with my 07 MCSII Command (same Command as in your GL). And I'm using the OEM 07 style bluetooth part number I believe ends in 5878 or something like that.
The steps:
On the head unit go to telephone
On the iPhone go to Settings -> Bluetooth
On the bluetooth puck press and hold the Mercedes-Benz emblem (if you're using the same style bluetooth as mine)
Eventually the iPhone should find the MB Bluetooth and select accept or whatever on your iPhone
Then enter the Bluetooth code on the iPhone- it should be "MBUSA" (but in numbers)
It should then pair
Wait a few minutes for the car to get the address book from the phone
Let me know if that works. That's the gist of how I paired my phone with the car from memory.

ATT could not pair mine either but the driveway boy at the dealer paired it in two minutes.

Glad you got it working!
I was having a hell of a time syncing my iPhone 5 as well, then I remembered that I need to push that MB logo on the bluetooth device itself and that got it all hooked up.
