Pl help me decide: 2012 GL550 or 2013 GL450?
I'm new to Mercedes, but our local dealer has a left over 2012 new GL550 & is giving us a great deal with $15,000 off msrp.
We test drove it & the new GL450. Love the look of the 550, but the steering was really stiff. Salesman said it is hydraulic versus the 2013 models that are electric powered. If any of you own or owned the older models, do they feel much harder to steer than any of your current vehicles?
550 was loaded, but it did not have the much improved interior of the 2013. OTD price would be the same, as they are only willing to take $2000 off the 450.
Would having a GL550 older version be better than buying the '13 GL450?
Thanks!

I wouldn't buy an old model. The difference is night and day. The way it drives, handles, comfort of interior is a lot better than old model. I like electric steering and think it's better than steering in old models. It's soft when you park or go slow and stiffer as you go faster.
I don't know your location, but $2K off MSRP is a bad price. You should shop around for about invoice. If you are eligible for any other discounts - it should be deducted from invoice or close to invoice price.

for about the same price otd- 2013 GL is a nobrainer- by all means get the new one-
you should be given an amazing incentive to get a 12' 550; remember some of these have been sitting in a lot for quite a while and if they are not giving a great deal- not worth it; thats upto the dealer- i'm not sure what they do with end year models - ?? export- they still have a
decent margin, but dealers really cant do that from what i know-
stick with the new 2013; this time of year, better ownership cost and less hit on resale- you'l be alot happier with it..
good luck and congrats!
