It is under a bracket on the top front right side of the engine.
I don't have the link right now, but I found a few good pictures on a Jeep forum (from the 07 Grand Waggoner with the MB engine)

P.S. no need to disconnect the battery.

There is no "relay", it is all electronic now.

Older cars had a relay so the name stuck.

If the check engine light comes on and the ODB/CAN bus error code is P0670 "Failed Glow Plug Controller" then it is bad.

If the engine starts normally with no check engine light, then it is good.

Hi, Engine is slightly harder to start if car is not touched for a couple of days. Mechanic says its normally dry/dirty connections in glow plug controller. Now I need to get hands on star torx socket.

Is the glow plug timer built into the controller?

The controller IS the "timer". (and the "Relay")

What do you mean by "slightly harder to start"

If when you hit the key, the Glow plug light comes on for a moment and then the engine starts to crank and it ends with the glow plug light off and the engine running with no "Check Engine" light, I would assume all is well.

Well it takes 4 cranks to start when car is not used for a couple of days. Light comes on for 2-3 secs goes off before I attempt to start.
During the day, once car has been started in the morning, car starts instantly.
Mechanic said module connections might need a clean?

There is nothing to "clean".

It is a sealed electronic controller.

What do you mean that it goes off before you attempt to start.

You should just hit the key (or button) and release.

The car's controller does the rest.

Hi, Are there no contacts between the controller and cable?
The light comes on for 2-3 secs, once it's out, I turn the key and release, it then cranks 4-5 times and then starts. (about 4 seconds)
Is this normal?

You are probably seeing the lamp test, when you turn the key from off to on.

That has nothing to do with the glow plug controller.

When you turn it to start, you shroud see the glow plug light go one for a fairly brief period just before the engine starts cranking.
4 to 5 cranks does not sound too long for cold, but I have not times mine.

Yes, that is what happens. Perhaps I am being pedantic, but my Vito use to start instantly at all times.

Did your 'Vito' (whatever that is) have pizeo injectors capable of 5 separate and distinct injection events in 3 milliseconds?

Please change ... mechanic rather than harass controller. Easier and cheaper in the long run.

when cold - yes. 4-5 cranks are normal. your battery is the decisive factor how quickly the diesel starts as diesel relies on compression achieved very quickly to ignite the mix.

Thanks, some owners state that their cars start immediately, hence my query.

In cold weather first start for the day none of the cdi platforms starts with less than 3-5 cranks.

When I first drove me GL into subfreezing temps (on the way home from picking it up in TX) the Check engine light came on with the first re-start after a fuel stop.

ODB reader gave me the P0670 code.
I could reset it but it came back on after every cold start.

Also seems a bit hard to start cold.
It would crank almost right away with the glow plug light on until it started.

Changed out the controller and now all is normal.
Glow plug light comes on first, then the cranking starts as the light goes out.

What do you class as cold weather. In the UK it is about 10 degrees in the mornings.

Replaced the glow plug module, car now starts instantly. Apparently it is a common problem on the 320cdi engine.

Read extract from MB Club mag.
