Wife's Cayenne Turbo S is wrecked, thinking about a GL...

Hi guys. My wife was involved in an accident last night (she's ok, other guy is ok) but her car, our '06 CTTS, is not. Waiting for feedback from insurance and the dealership to see if it's totaled or not, but figuring to look around while we wait.

If we replace her car I have been thinking about a GL for quite some time. We would likely go either the 450 or 550 route (used, not the new 13+ models) and I'm curious if you guys could help guide me to some year-over-year change information so I can be better informed about the different years and what to shop/look for both in terms of updates but also reliability. Is there a new buyer FAQ? I searched and didn't find one. Thanks in advance!

Sorry about the accident. The GL is a helluva lot heavier than the Cayenne, so be prepared to move some weight around , sorta like a high-end suburban

If it were me, I'd look at the GL63 AMG or the GL 550. I have the feeling the GL450 wont have enough oats for you or your wife!!!

Good point about the oats... The Cayenne is overkill though in terms of horsepower.

Not so sure the GL's going to outweigh it significantly, btw - this was at the drag strip with me + wife in the car (and we're not huge):

Cayennes are really heavy for their size due to the full-time 4wd and low-range transfer case tucked underneath.

GL550 does sound nice though. Are there any years to avoid or a year where they changed anything significant from '08-12?

Curb weight of 2006 Cayenne Turbo S is 5,668. A 2007 GL450 is 5,249.
