Oil cap loose
OK, Dumb me!
First I scared the hall out of myself, after backing the trailer in the driveway from a weekend of camping.
I get out and see oil drips all over.
I figure, OK, time to test that extended warranty I bought.
SO I go to check the dipstick to see how low I am, and notice oil all around the filler cap.
I take the cap off and notice I must have got only one of the tabs on when I added a 1/2 quart right before the trip.
I check the oil, and it is about where it was (mid range) before I added the 1/2 quart, so I guess I lost about 1/2 quart.
So what is on the front right side that a little oil coating might effect.
The belts look dry.

I did the same thing. My wife went on a golf trip and when she arrived at the hotel the bell captain asked her to move the car because the oil leak was soo bad it was ruining their driveway. I feared the worst and took another car to her and made the trip home to have the dealer look at it. It was a mess to clean up but I had no ill effects. My dealer said it happens regularly.

The alternator is right below the oil cap. Just saying. Our burned up after shortly after a 4500mi trip. It was 20k miles after the loose oil cap incident.

Looks like I was lucky as not much got on the alternator. Hopefully I an safe.
I did have a Honda that had that exact "mechanic induced failure".
