Intake manifold runners open vs closed. Broken Tumbler lever

Hi,
Been having the usual issues on my GL after just purchasing it. So after replacing the suspension bags, transmission fluid, power steering pump and spark plugs I scanned it and found 2 codes.
P2006 and P0357
Well after some research I discovered this dreaded plastic arm that opens and closes the intake runners is a common problem.
My code read that it was stuck closed at bank 1, it explains why it always seemed slow and was pinging at low rpm despite the octane rating.
I looked under the hood and can clearly see that the plastic arm was broken.
I decided to manually open the bank and see what would happen.
I very easily slid the metal rod in the opposite direction and went for a drive.
The car was much faster w/o a doubt and ran perfect, no pinging or sluggishness.
I ran the code reader again and of course it now read P2004 runner stuck open.
I clocked the car numerous times and am getting 8-8.5 sec 0-60, when the runners were open and almost 10 seconds when stuck closed.
Does anyone have a good understanding of how this works, I understand they are kept closed at low rpm for torque and opens under higher rpm.
I would like to know if the car will run faster if fixed, around 8 seconds seems slow to 60, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Or if I can just leave them open and drive the car or perhaps keep it open halfway?
As for the P0357, it mentions an issue with ignition coil G, is this related as there is no misfire or check engine light?
The car runs great but after investing so much into the car I am reluctant to fix this, if it does not speed the car up anymore than just leaving the runners open.
Any thought would be greatly appreciated, I know it should be fixed correctly however will it really make a considerable difference since with the runners open it drives great, no check engine etc.
Thanks for taking the time.

Have you checked your gas mileage with the valve open? You should...

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but on a related note - there is an aftermarket company that makes an upgraded replacement part. If you decide to replace it, you may want to consider. No affiliation... http://www.agacoolantpipe.com/produc...throttle-lever
