Oil Cooler Leak Diagnosis

SO, a few weeks back I left the oil cap loose and got quite a lot of oil leaking out from all over the bottom (Mostly right side, but it ran toward the center also).

I have it in at the dealer for a "B" service (since I am in a hurry, even though I just ordered the filter set to do myself) (Long frigging story).

They noticed what they thought was an oil leak from the oil cooler. I am guessing that a lot of the oil they are seeing is from when I had a loose cap.

They are cleaning it off, and I just have to watch it, but I was wondering given the soaked plastic underpan is wet all the way up to the right front (under where the oil cap leak was), what is the chance it is a misdiagnosis?

I did the same thing a couple of years ago. Based on how much oil covered the entire engine compartment in my car, I would say that you won't know for several months. That is how long it took mine to stop dripping even after a thorough cleaning. I'll bet you don't have a leak.

I am going to drop the pan, spray it down with Simple Green and hose it off with a a very gentle pressure washer. (Actually will probably save myself the mess and do it at the self serve car wash)

bselph, How many miles are on your GL?
What types of issues have you had?

I have 160,000 miles. Only issues have been front air shocks(replaced with Arnott @ 140,000), and power steering leak(starts and stops, no issue with rack so far). My NAV unit just last week stopped reading the dvd(still working on a fix). I have put on 1 set of brakes and front rotors once. Also the window lock button in the drivers control module is stuck in the down, lock, position so passengers can't roll their windows up or down. I do my own regular maintenance except trans flush(twice), brake flush(once), and air filters. I have been VERY happy with this vehicle.

Oil cooler leaks on these are very common. On the left rear upper part of the engine block there is a weep hole that you can see from underneath the vehicle. When the oil cooler leaks, the oil will travel in the valley and come out of this weep hole. Im not sure how to post pics here
