Picked up a CPO 2009 GL550

I have to say that this is an amazing SUV. Ample smooth power with the 7 speed auto trans, and 4 matic suspension makes it feel anything but a big SUV.

I bought this one at a local Mercedes dealer that was just over 52K miles and one owner. It was a CPO and I went ahead and got a 3 year 135K mile extended warranty so my wife and I don't have to worry about anything. Also can't beat brand new 21" Pirellis, and brand new front and rear rotors and pads. What an awesome vehicle. I really can't be happier with it so far.

So far I went ahead and installed HID 5000K fog lights which make quite a difference. I love the active headlights. It's the first car I've owned so far that has had them. I'm pretty new to these, and not aware of any modifications out there for these SUVs. Can anyone help me out here on any possible options out there?

Here are a few quick pics. I'll post some interior shots later. So glad I went with the 550 though. Thanks for looking...

Congrats.

However, I guess you are one of those folks... With obnoxious Chinese hid fog lights that throw light everywhere (mostly in the incoming drivers' eyes)... If so you have managed to achieve three things- **** off other drivers, ghettofy your truck and make your fog lights pretty much useless (actually down right dangerous) in foggy conditions.

Just my two cents

Nope, I've been around long enough and have been doing this long enough to know how to do it right.

Did you replace the lenses AND reflectors with hid- specific ones? Unless you did you have not done it right....

I was thinking the same thing. I have HID driving lights but I used projectors that replaced the standard fog lamp. Very sharp cutoff line and does not scatter light everywhere as if you put HID's in the standard fog lamps.

The problem is two-fold.

One is the projection pattern - the hid being a higher frequency disperses wider than the regular beam thus throwing light everywhere. So yes - the hids throw more lumens, but fewer on the road where it counts. But you can see the tree branches better lol.

The other worse problem is that the higher frequency light bounces a lot more and if you have water particles in the air (fog/ rain/ snow) the visibility is further reduced and the driver is literally blinded. That is why fog lights generally are in the low (yellow) kelvin range so light doesn't bounce and scatter as much.

Please stop trolling for trouble....If you have nothing nice to say than go somewhere else. You are bothering me

And by the way, these are fog lights...You know, the ones that come on only when I turn them on...

I said "congrats". So that counts as saying something nice

This is not trolling. Just the facts... And you can chose not to read my posts which unfortunately is not going to be an option for the folks driving around you when you have your fogs on.
