New to the x164 platform NEED HELP!!!
Just purchased a 2009 GL550 was hoping some of you could help me. Im not new to the the mercedes scene as i currently own a 2004 W211 E55. But i don't drive her in the winter months here in chicago so winter driving in the merc is new to me. My wifes GL washer fluid has been freezing on cold days once we pull it out of the garage and drive it for awhile. At first i thought it was cheap washer fluid that was +20 degrees or higher but i used -35 below fluid and its still does not work till it sits in the warmer garage. Does anyone else have the same problem or know what maybe wrong i have searched hight and low with now answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Mine has been freezing as well. Friends have the same problem with different makes and models of vehicles . I think the issue is the diameter of the tubes, they are so small that the amount of liquid in them freezes regardless of the anti-freeze used.

It is a big reservoir, you have to add a LOT of new fluid to get rid of all the old.
Where did the car come from? Mine was from TX and froze the second it got below 32.
I found some windshield antifreeze concentrate and that helped. Now, I never use anything not rated for -25.

Thats what im hoping i sprayed all that was in the tank till foam was coming out of the nozzle. then topped it off with -35 degree washer fluid well in a way i am glad i am not the only one with this problem. But at the same time you would think with the technology that is in these newer high end cars we would'nt have this issue.

It only takes a frozen drop to plug a line.

what do you suggest? Should i continue to run the -35 washer fluid through maybe go threw a gallon or two? Ive lived in chicago my whole life and have never seen this kind of cold weather but at the same time ive never had any of my previous cars washer fluid freeze in the line.

Well, I have bought almost all my cars from out of state, and have had freezing problems here.
Seems once you get through a refill of good fluid they get fairly infrequent.
The GL has been a little worse than previous cars, but it has also been a very cold winter.
Maybe it is the complexity of the washer system with front, rear and headlight washers that let little drops of old fluid hang around.
You can get the Prestone concentrate at Advanced Auto. It seemed to help.

So far its been pretty good since i ran out all that old fluid and used -35 degree windex brand washer fluid hasnt froze yet. So im hoping it was the washer fluid that was in there that was cheap and not the car it self lol.
