2007 Mercedes GL450
Valve body or conductor plate

I just purchased a used 2007 GL450 with 68K miles. After 2 months, I noticed it shifting funny. I would pull out from a stop sign and it would rev up (rpms go way up) and not move very fast. It only does this every so often. I pulled the codes off and I'm getting P2767,P2768. It looks like valve body or conductor plate needs to be replaced based on what I've read from other people. This is ridiculous for transmission problems with only 69k miles on it. Does anyone know what options I have? MB pay some of the bill? It doesn't have an extended warranty.

It happens to ALL X164 GL's. You are stuck with the repair bill. Should be around $1,200 at the stealership.

Mine went out around 100k miles but that may have been because I had the fluid and filter changed around 35k miles.

Something is wrong if Mercedes doesn't pay for this. This is a flaw. I thought Mercedes is one of the best vehicles out there and all there GLs have this problem? This is crap! I guess I should have stuck with GMC Yukons.

The GMC Yukon will be a whole hell of a lot more reliable but it doesn't handle or drive nearly as well as the GL. I agree with you that a MB should be MORE reliable than a GM but it has been quite a while since MB's were very reliable.

Wonder if it is more years than miles.
2007 with only 68K has been sitting A LOT!
Do you have history on it?

Seems we have a bunch of people with well over 100K without issues, so I am not sure a Suburban, Yukon, Denali, Escalade (name of the month) really is any more reliable.

I have what I think is the dreaded X164 transmission problem.

2007 GL450

Transmission got stuck in a gear - I think it was 3rd, but not sure - and when I shifted to neutral, it wouldn't go back in Drive, though the dash display said "D".

Pulled over, turned the engine off, then back on, and it drove fine thereafter.

Otherwise, no symptoms. The car drives fine. No CEL. My trusty OBD reader says "no codes".

I tried to do the research to figure out what it likely is, but I read about:

1. Software update
2. Valve body
3. Replace transmission
4. ECM
5. Conductor plate

Any consensus on what the most likely failure is? People seem to mention the conductor plate most often, but I didn't see a consensus.

And do I have to take it into the dealership?

Many thanks in advance for your time and attention. Seriously - the good folks on MBWorld have been a godsend.

The dealer will say it's the turbine speed sensor in the transmission. Should be around $1,200 to repair. It is a manufacturer defect and happens to pretty much all the 7 speed trannys eventually. Not sure if and when they corrected the defective part but I wouldn't be surprised if they just swapped with another bad part.

Thanks, mon.

User eric24320 at Benzworld says the 722.6 trannies have the turbine speed sensors while the 722.9 trannies have the valve body and control unit problems. Mine is a 722.9 (at least my vehicle info says the tranny number starts with 7229). You think it's the speed sensors or the valve body, etc.?

I pulled from this thread: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/x164...n-fails-9.html

I'm starting to wonder if this might not be a good time to ditch this thing, especially if I know it has expensive service pending. Problem is I only need a big car for another couple of years or so. But I need a reliable car - I had three kids in the car with me last night at about midnight!

The repair ticket on my 2007 GL450 with the 722.9 tranny said turbine speed sensor was faulty and was replaced under warranty around 100k miles.

Very good, thanks. You were having the same symptoms?

I'll post after my vigorous rectal probing at the dealership.
