is this a spindle or maybe a CV issue?

When accelerating and turning to the left or right (say from a dead stop at a stop sign), I get a binding/grinding type of feel through the steering rack, and the issue is clearly audible.

I did see this old thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...something.html

But it isn't so much of a clunk as a grind.

Thoughts?

I have the same issue. Started happening with the colder weather -30C out here.. First I thought it was the power steering issue but now I am thinking it is something to do with ESP/ABS sensors. I hope that is the case, otherwise it almost sounds like shot transfer case or a bad axle.

Changed the power steering filter - basically the steering fluid reservoir, the filters are inside. I still have the described noise when cold, it sounds like it has become less pronounced but it is still there... It goes away after the car warms up.
How is yours?

Mine seems to have stopped. But it also has gotten warmer here.

Also, I wouldn't put it past the Stealership to have just been random about their diagnosis.
