Extended warranty info

Looking to see if anyone had better luck on getting a price quote for an extended warranty. We have an '09 GL450 with 28K miles, CPO warranty expires next month. Our dealer quoted us at 4K for a 24-month extended warranty, which I thought was high, so I'm shopping it around. Also, is the Platinum level worth it? I was told by the dealer to go for it since my GL has an air suspension. Thanks!

I just purchased a 3 year ext warranty on my 11' GL550 - from MB dealer for $2575.

PM I will give you her name/contact info.

I looked at other warranties - but after investigating found many to be less than stellar and MB Service Director talked about the disparity in these private warranty company labor hours and requirement for independent inspections and overall headaches. Nothing, in my opinion, beats a MB warranty! The peace of mind is worth it.

Cheers,

just remembered my login info. sorry for the late response.

I just purchased a bumper to bumper warranty for 5 years with 45 k miles for 3600. they pay by credit card for repairs. I heard problems with warranty companies before and majority of reported problems come from the dealerships because they refuse to pay the higher labor rates. But if you take it to an independent mercedes specialist, they have no issues because the rate per hour is more in par with what they normally deal with. they do however, as the other poster said, need to send out an adjuster to inspect the car before work can be done. but it's usually the same day or next day. but is thats not possible, they just approve it.

the warranty i purchase is no deductible, and can only be purchased if u don't live in california and your vehicle has less than 50k miles. my friend had this warranty (just ran out) and had no issues when he brought his bmw to a bmw specialist for multiple repairs over the amount he paid for the warranty.

i also purchased a 5 yrs 100K (thats from the time i bought it at 74k so it expires at 174k) for 2400 no deductible for powertrain, AC, all mechanical, no bumper to bumper .

if you google AAAutoProtection <salesdept@list.aaautoprotection.com> you should be able to get some quotes.
goodluck

Last Jan (2013) I picked up a 2008 with 96K.

Shopped warrantees extensively (Actually, I shopped for warrantees while shopping for the car).
Found out quite a few things.
1) Even two brokers selling the same warranty often have different terms. (Don't shop by 'brand', read the exact terms)
2) The more miles the worse terms. Break points are usually 50K, 75K, and 100k, but vary between companies.
3) Make sure the company knows it is a MB (and knows how to deal with MBs)
4) There is usually an adder for "extended labor rates" or some such to cover MB service rates. If you intend to use a dealer or a pricy independent shop, make sure you get this.
5) If it is a diesel or turbocharged or both, make sure that is included in the rate. Same for 4WD. (You don't ant to leave open a door for them to refuse a claim)
6) There is usually an adder for "Luxury Electronics", given the number of control modules and the electronic instrument panels we have get this.
7) There is also usually an adder for "Seals and Gaskets", given the diesel cooler issue get this.
8) Now have fun comparing all the different price/mileage/year offerings
9) And finally just buy from the guy who sounds the nicest.

I think I paid a bit over $3k for 4 years and 48K miles (near complete mechanical/electrical coverage, but not bumper to bumper)

My warranty on my '09 CPO runs out in 8 days so I'm really at a decision point. The extended MB CPO extension is pretty pricey but is very complete. I have 44,500 miles and was quoted $2600 for 1 year, $3800 for 2 years. Pretty high and I don't think I'm keeping my car much longer.

I was given two other options form the MB dealer. One was through QualityGuard. 24 mos/24k was $2800 and was an exclusion type policy. It listed the things that were NOT covered, and everything else would be covered. The second was through Smart. 24 mos was $2100, but 48 mos was only $2800. This was less inclusive and listed the things that were specifically covered. Unfortunately, neither of these cover the air suspension. The good thing is, they are transferrable and prorate refundable.

I'm just on the fence about which one to go with, especially since I'm planning on selling within a year. Any thoughts?

After much delibartion ,i just bought 2007 GL450.I ended up getting third party warranty (coast to coast) sold to me by the dealer.Cost me $2000 plus tax. Covers most items .But i don't think it covers air suspension bag and sensors.
On asking, the dealer said that this is the highest and the best available warranty available with them. The warranty covers 3years unlimited km.
Do you guys think it was a wise move to get $2k warranty ? did i over pay?

You will know in 3 years.

It is always a guess until they do or don't cover something.

I just bought my car on Mar.29
it is a 2012 E350 Coupe (CPO)
it has 19,800 miles.
it comes with the Original warranty until March 2016 or 50K
plus the CPO warranty until March 2017 with unlimited mileage.

I called the mercedes dealer yesterday and I was quoted $2495 for a two year extended warranty with unlimited mileage, but I have to purchase it before 50K miles or Mar.2016.
the lady told me that Mercedes usually has a 15% surcharge when you purchase the warranty unless you buy it at the same time as you buy the vehicle, but she says that during the entire month of April, Mercedes is waiving the 15% surcharge.

good deal or not ??

No. The only issues expensive issues I had were the air struts and turbine speed sensor. All combined at the dealership for struts and turbine speed sensor Iin the transmission was over $5k. I would get your money back and purchase a warranty that covers sensors and Airmatic.

When did the CPO go unlimited miles?

Mine was 100K and 7 years (Total from original delivery)
Between 42K when I bought the car and 96K now (at warranty run out) it saved me the cost of the rear shade (About $1K) and a front corner marker (I would guess about $250 with labor)
It cost me about $2k, so I never got above water.

I am not sure when CPO changed to unlimited mileage, but now it comes with unlimited mileage ( at least my car came with it, and I have the CPO paper work that states it)

so if I am reading what you are saying correctly, I should buy the extended
24 month warranty for $2495 with unlimited mileage, that will have my car with warranty until March 2019...... is that what you would recommend ??

That sounds good, but it might have been delivered in 2011.

The dates they have provided me are from my VIN # so I am pretty sure that all the dates are accurate.

I will make the purchase next week on the Extended warranty, the lady also said that it is fully refundable at any time if I change my mind or sell the car before the extended warranty goes into effect.

I was going through the warranty papers today and it states that oil change needs to be done every 6000 km or 4 months what ever comes earlier from the date of purchase .
This stipulation will make me do oil change at added cost and more frequently that required by mercedes benz?
if i just follow the schdule not not go by what it says on the document will i void the waranty ? friends whats your take on it ??

I would say it would at a minimum give them ammunition to not cover engine repairs.
Since MB only says you need oil and filter every 10K (or 13K) miles, then find an place that will just change the oil in between.

www.autowarranties.com
Hal Moses.
Seemed knowledgeable and (as much as I could tell) honest.
Provided lots of info before the sale.

Although almost 3 years in, I have less than $1k of my $3200 back.
