odd power steering issue

Dear all,

My first post here.

I have my gl 350 from 2012 and recently I BELIEVE the power steering plays up a bit in a very odd manner. The steering is light as normal when the car is not moving or moving slowly. Also the steering seems right when it's moving fast. i.e. 70 miles (I guess not much steering need to be done at that speed). But there are few times I was travelling at around 35-50 miles on a bandy upwards road, the steering suddenly becomes heavy then back to normal. It almost feel the steering get locked for a second and back to normal again. i.e. I follow the band and thought just give a bit more turn then feel the lock. Has anyone had the same issue before? Thanks.

Regards,

I'm guessing your power steering reservoir is low or you have a power steering rack issue. Check the reservoir first. If it is low, you have an issue that needs to be addressed. The reservoirs are known to leak so you will need to get that fixed. Either way, you have issues with your power steering.

Thanks for the reply BlownV8. I am new to MB. Could you tell me where is the power steering reservoir. I guess it's under the engine cover. I see there is a small black box. But how can I take the cover off or am I looking at wrong place? Thanks.

As you are looking into the engine bay, it is located in the left front of the engine. You should see a cap.
