In dire need of help

09GL320

Did the oil cooler job today.
Cleaned manifold and made sure flappers are freely moving
Replaced servo motor

After reassembly..the drive home was without any boost
No check engine light until a few restarts...havent been able to scan yet

All charge pipes are tight and secure

Does the servo motor need to be programmed? Could this cause no boost?

Any ideas?

Dont have a solution for you but how hard was the oil cooler job? Did you do it yourself or had a shop fix it?

I did it myself. I have been on the collision side of things for 20 years and that usually brings mechanical work to some degree. It wasn't that bad of a job. Lots of parts to take off. At first glance you kinda say to yourself wtf but as long as you're organized in the disassembly process it will go smoothly. Some things are rather time consuming. I ordered everything I needed up front from my dealer using part numbers from a kit sold on ebay. It was pretty spot on. 2 bolts holding the turbo to the rear bracket were the worst. And the servo motor was tedious as well. I am thinking this may be where my problem is. 12 hour job all together. .fair amount of that time was cleaning

I wish there was a DIY on this so I can get a sense of work involved. Thanks!

I dont even have a GL yet, but wanted to get a sense of what the job involves. I'll check out youtube for reference. Also, if I ever wind up getting a GL and doing the job, i'll hit you up! Thanks.

Ok..Monday morning and this vehicle is driving as it should. I just let it sit all day yesterday out of shear aggravation. The code stored is P0471..exhaust pressure. Could this come from the egr solenoid maybe getting wet from parts cleaning solution? I will be doing an extensive DIY write up for anyone wishing to do their own and save a couple bucks

Awesome, it seems to be a common defect on the diesel GL. I'm sure it will come in handy for those out of warranty who want to save thousands in repair costs.

you soaked something in something. it evaporated and all is good.

if your lack of boost was persistent i would venture to say you forgot a hose or a gasket somewhere. in that case get a mechanics stethoscope and a helper to blip rapidly and lightly the throttle in park and you assume the "praying" position on the top of the engine and listen for hisses

Well..the problem has resurfaced along with the p0471 code. Shut the car off at a stop light and restarted it..everything is fine..seriously wtf now?

You really need to interrogate your exhaust pressure sensor. This is done via das.

Where is this particular sensor located?

And now it appears as though P0299 is present as well. Caused by exhaust sensor?

no. this actually might be the source of your problem. it is consistent with "turned off vehicle, restarted and all is good" (until the next above-average turbo boost demand that is when the underboost condition is triggered again ).

check the inlet and outlet hoses where they connect to the intercooler. make sure you have your gaskets in there and all is right

in other words - recheck your ic replacement job. you have forgotten something - check vacuum hoses around turbo boost lever... make sure all operates as expected.

ideally - you should read the code freeze data with das and see what is out of bounds.

I will recheck the charge pipes. Don't recall seeing vacuum lines or a boost lever. .could you be a little more specific please..and just for clarification. .you are thinking a boost leak is causing this symptom thus going into a limp mode of sorts. Thanks

Anyone have any ideas on what “exhaust pressure to high” code could mean? I had my fuel pump and sensor replaced, and the now check engine light is on. Car hesitates when you need to accelerate really fast onto a ramp.

First of all..we would need a dtc to obtain a starting point.

Secondly. .thanks to all that commented on this post...wound up being a back pressure sensor that sits vertically to the right side of the turbo if you are looking from the front. This sensor got wet with parts cleaner solution and apparently they are not very forgiving. Although the part number described it as a fuel pressure senor even though it goes in the manifold and doesn't read any fuel pressure per se.

Stay tuned for a full DIY writeup of an oil cooler job

Thanks

How different were the new oil cooler seals from the older version? Noticeable size difference? different color?

Did you replace the cooler itself as well while in there?

The newest seals are purple in color and seem to be a little bit more stiff of course I'm comparing it to seals that were on there for 90,000 miles they are a little bit thicker and for $120 my cost i didn't want to go back in and have to replace the oil cooler afterwards so I did it all at the same time I had read people's stories about having the seals replaced only to have to go back in at a later date and replace the cooler... very labor intensive
