Trade in question/opinion
Our 2009 550 has 92k miles on it and we have an extended warranty till 100k. I'm curious if there is a "sweet spot" of sorts on trading the car in. I was offered about 25k for trade-in right now. So I'd be curious what the trade in value would be if we let it go till 100k. Do the values just tank after 100k? Our plan wasn't to keep it much past 100k because of warranty concerns, but if the car is worth next to nothing, we might just drive it into the ground.
Anyone traded theirs in after 100k miles?

Out Of Control!!
There is a drop at 100K.
Being as it has a warranty, it is a lot easier for the next owner to get another before it expires and before it gets to 100k

It's a non MB extended warranty, so I'm not sure if that has any bearing on the new owner being able to get a warranty. I think 3rd party warranty companies will warranty just about anything for a price.
This pre-owned 2013 we are looking at is equipped exactly like I'd build one so it's very tempting. But it's so nice not having a car payment right now. If we wait and trade it in after 100k, have I lost the same amount in trade in value as I would be paying on the note on the 2013? Think I would lose 5k? 8k? Assuming another 8 months or so of driving.

I went through the process when I was shopping for my GL.
I started shopping warranties as I was shopping cars.
If the car was over certain limits like 100K the plans offered got thinner in coverage and more expensive. (70 K was even better, 125K was even worse). It is not a sliding scale, it was hard limits.
If it did not have an active warranty (MB or otherwise) I needed an inspection, that was not required for a currently warrantied car. While the inspection did not have a "cost" it does open the door to something being excluded.
So a car with just under 100K and an existing warranty does have a value.

the 550 trucks are black holes of depreciation rivaled only by the amg line up. yours already went down as much as it will. count a grand per year from now on.
in other words - if you like your truck and it has been reliable - keep it.

That's why I try to buy pre-owned to lesson the depreciation hit a little. We bought our 2009 after it had been owned for about a year and 20k miles and it had already depreciated 20k. I'm starting to see some 2013's come in off lease so that's why I'm aiming for.
This 2009 has been pretty reliable so far. I was waiting for an airmatic issue and it finally had one. That's actually what took us to the dealership and just happened to notice the pre-owned 2013's. Turns out it was just the compressor so pretty easy fix.
