Prius
75 is about all the Prius had. It gave it up for me, after the impact I had to limp it along to get cell coverage so I could call for help. I had lost the radiator from which a major overheat was the result.
First time driving a Prius. I could not get better than 47 on the highway, which I can beat with a 5 speed jetta wagon tdi.

Diagnostic Cables
Hi, I am new to these forums and before I continue, Kudos to you all who contribute your time and knowledge, Thank you so much
Everyone says read the codes before you embark on any repairs, I agree.
My question is with what?
Please advise on what kind of code reader and perhaps why I should get one particular unit over the other would help very much.
How could I learn on how to operate and understand the codes - tutorials perhaps.
Be well

You can go to any autoparts store that scans codes to get some really basic information but the STAR diagnostics is about 100x more powerful. It will tell you if you have light bulbs out. You can get almost any information out of the onboard computer with that thing. If you are near Wichita (or any of the other people on the map) I am sure one of us would be able to show you.
I lowered my GL with the STAR diagnostics. You can't do that with an off the shelf OBD2 reader.

Thank you, I am much obliged.
Perhaps, if it is not too much bother could you please recommend where and which model, vendor, reliability etc, could I buy one from.
Off hand, I am thinking something upgradeable or maybe not..... don't know, pls advise.

Reviving this thread for a couple things; my GL has 46k on it and warranty will be up by spring the way we put miles on it. It's been fairly reliable so far and I intend to do all the work myself going forward.
My big concern with the systems that require a Dell laptop are that the D630 isn't exactly a spring chicken. Not long from now it will be a brick. I have a data acquisition system on my race car that was similar; had to buy an older laptop to make it work and now it's so old and slow it take ages to do anything. I just don't want to pay good money for something that isn't going to perform for years to come.
Looking online I see some systems offered with tablets, etc. that appear the same as some of these systems. The genuine Star systems are crazy, so it's going to have to be an alternative.

Don't load and crap and don't do any updates and the old D630 will stay just as fast as it ever was.

I think this thread should be stickied on all the different threads. If we could get a bunch of forums to participate it could be like the VagCom locator on TDIClub (where I got the idea from). They have several hundred cables listed all over the World.
