I don't know why, but I have been using 0W-30 ESP since I started doing my own oil changes, without any issues.

Got the 0-30 esp oil today spec 229.51. I called another dealer and they still call for 5-40 esp m oil. My dealer showed me the paper work on the change so I will try it out

0-30

Wonder if that will help with the start up clatter?

Here is the complete list of oil permissible for use in the diesel engines in an ML/GR

http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevoli...nt_action=show

Seems that they added Mobil 0-30 ESP. But 5-30 ESP is still listed.

Remember if you're buying 0-30 it needs to be specifiic brands and types. So for Mobil 1 it needs to be the "ESP" version.. you can't just buy any oil of that viscosity and think it will work.
