The gate opens from the outside but needs just a small boost before it takes over and opens on its own..if I try to open with the interior switch or remote, the motor buzzes but doesn't lift the gate. It shuts fine with any button but it does seem to shut somewhat hard just before its closed. Could this be weak liftgate struts?? or does it need a new motor. Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

You need a new latch, mine was just replaced under warranty. It's an easy fix once you have a new latch

It does latch and unlatch just fine, it just needs an initial 'boost' to get it moving. Still think its the latch? Thanks

That does sound like struts (just guessing, but thinking logically)


Other thoughts could be some air in the hydraulic system or a weak pump or actuator.

If you are talking about that first few inches then I don't think the struts or motor are doing a lot of work down there. Think of the angle of the arm and force due to gravity.

It's about midway up that the motor has to work the hardest. Mine had trouble latching when I got it but it sounds like yours is having trouble un-latching properly. Maybe check the latch for plenty of grease. I also managed to get mine to latch manually while the door was at eye level (push the latch over till it clicks and then the motor pulls it in). You might try that and see how it unlatches when you reach around and actuate the handle. Maybe it could be fixed with some silicon grease? Just like above I am just trying to think through it logically.

Put a support under the hatch when open and pull off the struts. They should be hard to compress and feel about equal.


That would be a quick rule out of a single failed strut.

Thanks guys..I'll try some grease then move on to checking the struts.

It should not need much "grease".


I would probably use a light coat of white lithium grease or clear silicone lube (Super Lube).


As you try things, note any changes, as that might help point in the right direction.

Agreed..I'm leaning towards a strut issue but will proceed step by step.

It was the latch..it didnt unlatch quick enough to allow the motor to lift the gate.
