problem with glow plug or glow time output stage
hi guys
It is around 45 degree here.I have a check engine light . car cranks about 10 times when cold before starting.
checked the codes with My MB star and get glow timeout stage at least one of the glow plug is not..
It does not tell me what glow plug. when I do the self test for the timeout stage the test comes up ok no fault.I reset the code and it comes right back once I start the car.
would one defective glow plug affect starting ?
how do I know which glow plug is bad?
Thanks
Erick

First, are you on the right forum? According to your sig you don't drive a GL(X164).
Second, do you have access to a dealer where diagnostics can be run (Star system)? If so, do it.
If not, check the resistance of each glow plug with a digital multimeter. A defective glow plug will have resistance readings significantly different than any of the others. (A good glow plug should measure about 0.5 ohms cold)
If the glow plugs are all the same resistance (+ or - a bit) then the glow plug controller is suspect. Change it.
