Cannot get car out of park. Ideas?
Our 2007 GL 320 is stuck in park. Here are the symptoms:
Guessing it might be a sensor or something. Tried pulling the fuses and disconnecting the battery for a while, but still didn't work. Especially challenging is that it is in a garage, making towing it out a real adventure.
Anyone have any ideas on how to (1) reset the sensor or (2) manually put the transmission in neutral so I can at least get it on a flatbed?

Depending on problem even the dealer might not be able to release the park detent in the gearbox.
If everything else fails put four plastic serving trays under the wheels (jack one at a time) and have the tow truck slide out the GL out of the garage.

Check you manual. There may be a way to release the shifter. My 2001 E55 will not shift out of park when it is cold outside. I use an ink pin to press the release which is located next to the shift lever.

I read your symptoms again. It's not the brake position sensor. I would call MB roadside assistance to see if they can possibly get you going. If not, more than likely it will need to be towed.

the e-class emergency neutral procedure (remove boot, insert pin, release lever) does not work on the gl.

Well, it was a major repair. Turns out the "Intelligent Servo Module (ISM)" failed and had to be replaced (part 000-270-18-52). When that happens, there is no way to change gears on the transmission. It's a $555 part and 3 hours labor to replace. A real PITA to replace, as it turns out the module is on top of the transmission so lots of fun to get to.
Car had to be dragged out of the garage on skids, dragged up on to the flatbed, and bounced off it. These trucks are remarkably hard to move when the wheels don't turn!
