Newbie with GL450 suspension nightmare
I purchased a 2008 CPO GL450 three years ago and have just dropped it off at service again for the SIXTH time for noisy front suspension. Thank god for the warranty. They fix/replace parts and the noise comes back. Anyone have a similar problem?

let me guess- a thump/ heavy clunk when going over speed bumps/ similar?

Or are you talking about a noisy rattling sound...something like a tiny RC car motor with a noisy exhaust that runs for a while then stops? If the latter, both my Arnott compressors in my GL450 are noisy as hell...the first one and the second one I had them replace it with. Started to get worked up about it and tear it apart myself to figure it out, now I'm used to it and pleasantly puzzled when driving my wife's GL550 and don't hear the occasional rattle.

I have a thread for a similar noise and replacing the anti roll bar end links will be the fix (I'm running with the bar disconnected until the parts arrive.)
It's pretty easy to rule it out by just disconnecting one of the links, doesn't matter which ones. Jack up the front of the car (both front wheels have to be off the ground) and use a 21 mm wrench (you need a deep well socket if you don't have a wrench that size) to remove the nut. Tie it back to the roll bar with wire or a zip tie and test drive it like that. If the noise goes away that is your problem.
Replace them in pairs.

Had our 450 in the shop for this too - clunks and creaks from the passenger front going over speed bumps (never from the driver the side). They replaced the passenger front strut, but the noise remained. On the second attempt, they replaced the strut again, the right front knuckle and the CV shaft. That did the trick and we never heard the clunk again - sold it 5K miles later.
